Aeroplan: Anyone heard anything about the plan ending?

Okay, so I have accumulated Aeroplan miles due to expire end of 2013 (now that they have the 7-year expiry in place) so I was poking around the website. Not logged in, so seeing just what any person checking out the program would see.

On their General Terms and Conditions page, here's what I find buried in the fine print:

13. Subject to earlier termination or amendment of the Aeroplan Program, you can accumulate Aeroplan Miles until December 31, 2013, and request reward travel until March 31, 2014. Reward travel must be completed by December 14, 2014.

(found on https://www3.aeroplan.com/terms_and_conditions.do )

That sounds to me like they're wrapping the program up. HUH? Did I miss an announcement? Or maybe I'm misinterpreting that statement?

Any information and/or speculation from my fellow Canadian Dis-ers welcomed.

I would be surprised because Aeroplan is not Air Canada anymore...they spun it off to be its' own company and play in the "Reward Space".

That being said I am a points collector czar and I have to say it is a weak rewards program. Nowhere near as good as RBC Rewards (Avion) or airmiles, in my opinion anyways. I think Scene Card is a better program.

I just took a tango flight last week and it is only 50% eligible for Aeroplan and I could not use my eUpgrades. I fly enough on business to get Prestige level but the eUpgrades etc can never seem to be used.

Another one that is challeneging is the Delta Program. None of the promotions ever work, I have to email every time to get the right amount of credit. They always say it is my work travel agents fault and the travel agen says it is Deltas???

Hmm. I would interpret that language the same way, Northstar, but very odd it hasn't been announced. Would love to find out more--I have a few AP pts, enough to buy a pass or two on this trip, but I generally hate to use pts for anything other than airfare--but maybe I should just do it.

I don't like Aeroplan either and blew all my points last year, never to be pursued again. I'm hoarding Amex gold rewards and transferring them into Avios @1.5 during bonus promotions.
I did go over to flyer talk and see if there was any word on Aeroplan ending and I don't see anything there. They would be all over it if it were the case, so I think you're ok for now.

Sure hope not! If so I best get busy

I like Avion as well...but don't like the cap for business class fares-esp International. Never get to fly business having to top up that much $$ and that redemption requires more mileage is kind of lousy too...

I think they always have that wording, just extending the date every year.

Like the previous poster said, if it were being cancelled, Flyertalk would be all over it and they aren't.

I agree. The way I interpret it is that if they cancel or change the program THIS YEAR (subject to earlier termination or amendment of the Aeroplan Program), you would have until the end of the year to make bookings and until March next year to use those points.
