Aerial construction photos

These are interesting. I had hoped to see more detail in the Avatar area by now but that's just me being impatient. Downtown Disney definitely looks like a mall now. My appreciation of it will depend big time on which tenants they bring in.

Well avatar is a lot of mesh wiring and metal work to prepare for the upcoming concrete pours. Over the next year details will start to show and the floating mountains will become something you can see from other areas of the park.

DTD really is turning into a mall by adding Town Center. Town center is just all shopping and it's likely it's a lot of outlet type stores. I know an Apple Store has been discussed quite a bit for somewhere in there. I think the landing will be a great area. Not much has changed on marketplace or west side other than detail changes and world of Disney expansion.

We've always liked the marketplace and expect to continue going there but I don't see much to lure us to the rest, at least not yet. We can shop at chain stores at home.

Same for us, and I am betting Disney did their homework there. DS (and DTD, and PI before that) seems to be to be a lot more about bringing in the locals. Hence the parking garages. I have often wondered what their $$ split there between vacationers and locals would be.

Also, while we don't do it, I see a lot of the foreign posters talking about having one day on their monstrously long holidays to go offsite to the outlet malls. Now, they might not have to leave.

Except that I expect the pricing to be quite a bit different between the outlets and Downtown Disney. This might not matter to some but I bet that it matters to quite a few people.

Is there a "before pic" of the hub? I'm just curious of the difference.

As seen in the picture above they basically added another ring around the existing hub.
Yes I just compared the two pics side by side. Looking forward to checking it out in person next month. Thanks!

The international visitor market could be huge. DH has family from Chile. They always go shopping when they visit the states, no matter where they go. Chain places, especially upscale ones, would appeal to them. I also think that upscale chains/brands could appeal to US visitors from smaller towns and rural areas. I avoid the mall when on vacation. Heck, I avoid the mall at home. However, I am not big on shopping, unless it's for something interesting, like Disney stuff:) So, they can have the other stuff, and I'll stick with World of Disney, Lego store, and Once Upon a Toy. Oh and Goofy's Candy shop:)

I was just comparing the before/after of the hub and had a question. It looks like they are building something in the blue area (a turret maybe?), and the Rose Garden was in the red square area. Do you think they will put another walkway behind the blue section and maybe bring back at least part of the Rose Garden? I know the boat launch deck is gone, but what else are they going to do with that little area?

The rose garden is gone. They have planted flowers and things in that garden but no more roses. There is no walkway like there used to be. The outer ring of the hub does go behind the blue section you drew. That walkway is open.

I will just say that you can get a good view of the Soarin construction from the walkway between Beach Club and the International Gateway. It's when you go over the road that runs around all the Epcot resorts. Sadly I didn't take any pictures, I was planning on doing it later that day but it ended up pouring.

Thank you for the pictures I can hardly wait. Avatar will be amazing!
