I posted this on the Theme Park Board, but I think it may be better suited for this board.

Wasn't sure which board to put this on...but, I am going on a disney cruise and would like to plan a surprise for my wife and daughter. We arrive about 2:30 at Orlando Int'l airport and have booked a room for 1 night at the Yacht Club Resort. My wife loves Fantasmic and Sci-Fi Dine-in and 2 year old daughter loves the Muppets and Disney Junior. Consequently, I think that I am going to go to Disney Studios that evening for a few hours and have dinner at Sci-Fi. In addition, I am renting a car from Avis at the airport and am driving to the Yacht Club. My question is...what time could I reasonably expect to arrive at the Yacht Club, check-in and get to the studios? Specifically, what time should I book a reservation for Sci-Fi for dinner? Fantasmic only has one show that night at 7:00 PM. Would a fastpass+ for fantasmic help? Thanks in advance for any help.

FP+ for Fantasmic is almost useless. I would not waste one on it.

Is the surprise the specific hotel? If so, are you sure you want to run off to a park? If I had a hotel as a treat (assuming that's the surprise) I would want to explore the resort, personally.

We tend to have a grocery stop bit on the other hand tend to have our bags first off the carousel bc DH gets priority bag handling, but I might assume (with no traffic delays an assuming a fast car rental experience) an hour and a half to get there. Maybe two hours depending on how long the airport monorail takes and how fast you walk.

I surprised my dd with two nights of our 8 night stay at the Caribbean Resort, really pretty room, great pool and grounds, but we were not on the property long enough to enjoy it.
Your dd. May like AoA or Movies for the one night, and you still can hop in the car and head to an evening at Studios. Do you have a year pass, or going to pay for the day. If your paying one day I may think about an off site night with something you never get to do during a Disney trip.

Sounds like a lot of rushing for one day.
Have a blast no matter what you do!

Best case scenario, you'll probably get to YC by 4pm, check in, head to DS, probably there by 5, I would make a reservation for 5:30p. Any later and you won't have time to enjoy the meal and make Fantasmic. Any earlier and it won't take much of a delay to mess you up.

HOWEVER, I would NOT make a reservation that I have to pay for if I don't show up. You have no idea what's going to happen with your flight or if there will be other delays (issues with luggage, issues with rental car, issues with travel time, etc).

Land at 2:30, at baggage claim at 3, down to Avis by 3:20, get can and be at YC by 4...at the latest. May very well be sooner.
I wouldn't make an ADR for before 5, 5:30 would be better.
Will you be spending any time at the parks the following day, before heading to port? You could feasibly spend a few hours at DHS that next morning. Only takes an hour to get to port. You could be at the ship by 1 and be in good shape.
