I am considering the disney college program because I have always loved disney and hope to work there some day. What are your experiences with the program? I e heard great things, but I'm not sure if I can get in and if it's worth moving down to florida from up north.

Well, three years ago last week I started on the the CP and haven't left, I'm working in my dream role and couldn't be happier. My experience with the program was very positive because I knew I wanted to turn it into a career and sought out every opportunity to better myself. A few of my friends were like me and they are scattered around property in management positions now. The program is what you make of it. If you come down to party and have a good time, you will do just that. If you come down to work and advance, you will do that to; and have some fun on the side.

My advice, go through your training, be on your own for a week or two, let your peers and managers see what kind of person you are. Then, schedule a meeting with your manager and let them know what your goals are for the program. If you want to get into management, let them know. When a CP told me that, we moved him around to various roles and even made him a trainer, he went on to get a Management PI and is now and became a statused manager a few months after his PI ended. They are your best friend for something like this because most of them were in your position at one time or another.

If it turns out its not something you like, it's only for a few months, you get some work experience, and you get to put Disney on your résumé.

I havent heard a bad thing about it yet; my girlfriend has a couple friends who have done it and loved it and since being accepted I have met a bunch of ppl from my college and heard about a ton of friends of friends who all loved it. As eadavis said, something like this and how it turns out depends on what you put it.
Im Just curious but how far north are you? Im going down for fall and Im from NYS.

you're farther north then me, I'm from Kentucky but my parents hate the thought of me leaving home because my sister is off at college too. I was also wondering if it is best to take classes while at disney or is it better to take a break from school for the program?

That comes down to you, partially depends if you want college credit (Assuming your college accepts it and what is required) and if you mind being set behind. Although I would say that taking classes at Disney is something to take advantage of whether or not you want credit since its a chance to learn from such a good company.

Personally I waited to graduate since I didnt want to fall to far behind plus if I can advance the CP into a PI or career I am free.

I thought you had to be enrolled in a school in order to participate in the program ... but it would be exactly what I'm looking for if you can do it after you got a degree if that's what your saying you did?

You must be enrolled and taking classes when you apply and interview for the program, so I applied at the beginning of my last semester and the interview was about half way through the semester. :cool2:

that sounds like what I want to do ... I really appreciate the advice ... thanks again

I'm came from NYSE, almost in Canada I was so far north. You can't really get any farther north than I was, and every long boring hour it took in the car to get to the program was completely worth it! The amount of networking that is possible is beyond anything you will find anywhere else. They have classes if you want to take classes, but you don't have to. They have seminars made just for networking. Everyone is willing to help you for the most part. I am in what is said to be one of the hardest roles out there, and although I am only a few days into the program so far I'm loving it. I'll check back in and let you know in a few weeks how it turns out. But it's been a dream of mine for many many years to work for disney and the cp made it possible. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
