Advice - rental home problem

Well, after a wonderful stay at our first vacation home, we have run into a problem. The owners seems to have 'disappeared,'...along with our security deposit. They won't return emails or phone calls. It has been 6 weeks since we've been back from our trip. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any advice what to do? Such a bummer...this was our first time renting a home, and it's unfortunate this has happened. By the way...we spent 4 hours cleaning the home spotlessly...vacuuming, all laundryetc. ...the place was sparkling clean.

Do you know what management company they used? They might be able to help.

Did you book via a listing site as the owners of the site may be able to help with contacting the owners.
Of course the owners may well have a reason for not being contactable but that doesn't help you and unless they are in outer mongolia surely they can get to a computer to pick up e mails.
Do the owners live in the UK? if you want to pm me their info I will see if I can get hold of them for you.

The other thing to look at is what their terms say- personally I return damage deposits withing 2 weeks max but each owner has their own way of doing things.

I would have to agree with JANNYANS, if you can contact the listing site!

I am sorry that you have had this problem. Please keep us posted on anything you find out or any help that you need.

Brian also has a good idea in talking to the Management Company and see if they can help you at all.

Just a quick update...the owners had some computer problems and lost their database. We did receive our security deposit refunded in full, and all is well. I'm so glad, because we had a really good stay, and we're glad to have it ended happily.
