My DD11 is having a part of her toe removed on Wednesday evening because of an ingrowing toe nail which has become infected.

Has anyone had this done? This is going to spoil her birthday next Saturday but I am more worried that she wont be able to walk much when we go to Disneyland Paris in two weeks time.

Can anyone let me know if they think the worst of the pain should be over after say 12 days.

Many thanks.

Susan

Sorry, I can't help you with the in-growing toenail, bit I just wanted to send some pixie-dust to your daughter for Wednesday :wizard: I hope it all goes well :)

I had the same thing when I was about 20. Make sure that when you DD goes for her appointment you take a pair of flip flops or loose fitting shoes as she won't be able to put her regular shoes on. My toe was quite painful for about a week but honestly it was more uncomfortable by then than painful. The relieve she will experience getting that part of the toenail off will outweigh the other pain.

Hope this helps.

I've had this done twice (same toe), just make sure she bathes it in warm salt water regulary, a few times a day and keep it up for a couple of days and change the dressing daily (also ask for more dressing, they never give you enough) she will be fine in a couple of weeks.

I can remember my brother having half his big toe nails removed in his teens! He had to wear sandels for ages and have clean dressings everyday (my mum used a empty bog roll tube to apply the tube bandage :) ).

He's in his late forties now and still wears sandels whenever the weather permits (no socks of course!). :)

I've had this done on both of my big toes, I would say that as long as she rests with her foot elevated like they tell you to it should be healed by the time you go on your trip. I would second what others have said about flip flops though - the bandage that they give you to start with is HUGE!!!! she won't be able to get her normal shoes on!

Goog luck and hugs to your DD. :grouphug:

Thanks for your help and good wishes. :)

Susan
