Advice/Opinions Needed, please (free dining)

I don't have a Disney VISA so I have to wait until Thursday to call about free dining. We are booked at POP from 8/23 thru 9/2 and already have plane tickets so I can't change our dates. Should I wait until Thursday to make sure there is still availability at POP before I switch to a room only reservation on the 23rd and the full package from the 24th thru 9/2? I am really torn on whether I should call tonight to make the change to my first reservation and add the room only or just wait until Thursday. Upgrading to a Mod will mostly negate the savings for free dining and we really don't want to stay at the All Stars so if I can't get free dining at POP I am just going to keep our current reservation as it is. I just don't want the time it will take to make the changes on Thursday to hurt the chance of getting free dining and I don't want to take any more time on the phone than I have to so others can get thru.

You won't be able to get through today either... on the other thread there are hour+ waits. You don't want to do that hold twice. I would just wait till Thursday and book a room only for one day and then a package for the rest. The only thing is, that's going to screw up your tickets. You will have to buy one day tix for everyone for the 23rd, and then buy another round of tickets starting the 24th for the package.

I was going to wait until later or even tomorrow to call if I call to make the changes prior to Thursday.

We hadn't planned on going to any Parks on Saturday so I don't need the tickets for that day. We had booked for 10 nights/11 days with 10 day Park Hoppers so that is all good.
