I am sure there is nothing budget related about a weekend trip to NY but any tips, advice, or information to help reduce costs would be helpful. Also any advice on what to do and see!

*edited to change title to 9 year old, not one year old, ooops!

The Central Park and children's zoo are a lot of fun. It is 12.00 for each adult and the baby would be free. If the weather is nice The Park is beautiful and has great playgrounds.

The Staten Island Ferry is free to ride and you'd get a great view of the Statue of Liberty.

Girl or boy?

The Gazillion Bubble Show is great (get discounted tix at BroadwayBox.com)

Central Park Zoo is awesome and with your ticket, you can go to the petting zoo for free. After that, a walk in Central Park is nice. You can also visit the Wollman/Trump rink for some ice skating.

Times Square: There is a Hello Kitty store on 42nd between B'way and 8th. Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and Ripley's is right across the street. There is also the Hershey Store and so many other attractions along Broadway.

Staten Island Ferry is free http://siferry.com/

Dylan's Candy Bar! http://www.dylanscandybar.com/ Third Ave at 62nd St.... afterwards, you can go to Bloomingdales!

Of course, the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock

The Natural History Museum (Central Park West/81st St)

There is so, so much to do in Manhattan and always something to see!

We took a 9 year old last May...here is what she enjoyed...going to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty, shopping in the Disney store, seeing Mary Poppins on Broadway, walking through Central Park and the night time double decker tour.

It isn't posted at the Top of the Rock - but if you have AAA - there is a discount - in the range of $3 per perosn. We only knowt his because our frugal college-aged daughter asked if they offered a student discount...no - they don't - then they mentioned the only discounts are AAA.

Bingo..,we had our AAA card out in a flash.

The 9-11 memorial site requires advance reservations, but is free.

Don't forget about going to the NY public library, or Grand Central Station. Those are quite stunning buildings!

Thank you for all the great advice! We do have AAA so I will have to keep that in mind when putting together our itinerary! And the 9yo is a girly girl if that inspires any other suggestions!

We have family in midtown Manhattan and Central Park but do some touristy things most visits as well. My girls are 8 and 12. For budget if you have a local museum membership see if it offers reciprocally. I get into the USS Intrepid free with my local science museum membership.

A 9 year old would probably enjoy Sony wonder technology lab which is free though advanced reservations are recommended.

Depending on what you are doing the newyorkpass could be a good deal.

Last week we went to the National Museum of math which is a hands on math museum geared for 4th to 8th graders. My 8 Year old dd loved it as did my dd12. It opened in December.

The American Girl Doll Store! My 9yo loves it there. Window shopping on 5th Avenue, Central Park Zoo, Museum of Natural History. There's so much to do!

I just did a long day in NY with my 6 yo in the fall. We did the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, spent the bulk of the day in Central Park - rented a boat on the lake, found the Balto and Alice statues, went to the zoo, rode the carousel and climbed giant rocks. Hit up Top of the Rock at dusk, it was beautiful. If I had more time I'd add in the American Girl Store and/or Toys r Us, the natural history museum and a musical.
