Advice on rides?

I am contemplating going on one or more of Everest, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Tron, and Slinky Dog Dash on our next Disney trip. I have never been on any of them. I'd like advice on whether any of them is a good idea or not. I started to go on Tower of Terror a few years ago, and it is one of my favorite rides. Much of the rest of my family will be going on these rides, but not everyone. For reference, I almost always keep my eyes closed when I am on Thunder Mountain Railway, though I understand that there is some scenery! :). I also close my eyes during part of the Seven Dwarves Mine Train Ride. I am totally fine on the Avatar ride, Star Tours, Dinosaur, and the Millennium Falcon ride. I am okay continuing to skip the rides, but maybe I would like one or more of them. I am in my seventies and in good health. What do you advise?

For me, they are ALL a GOOOOD idea! I used to close my eyes on Dinosaur because I don't like that Carnataur popping out at me. However, I finally realized that he was going to pop out whether my eyes were open or closed, so I might as well open them. I really love roller coasters, so I definitely think you should at least try them...in their entirety...with your eyes open so that you really know whether you like them, or not. If you keep your eyes closed, you "invent" what they are like based on no real evidence. Challenge yourself. I can only tell you that my experience on all those rides was exceedingly positive. You'll have to SEE for yourself if you agree. Hope you have a great trip!

I like Slinky Dog just fine. I can’t do Everest because of the backwards spiral, and I can’t do guardians because of the spinning. I haven’t done Tron to know.

If you do the two mountains you can do slinky dog! I use to be able to do Everest and now it is one time a trip. Going backwards gets to me. I did Tron and liked it! It is a quick ride. I have not done Guardians as I am afraid it will get to me since there were so many people getting sick when it first opened. I still haven't gotten the guts to try it, but want to. I am just trying to figure out when it would be best so it doesn't ruin the day if it does make me nauseas. Are you afraid of the nauseous or heights or what?

I don't usually have any problem with nausea. Also, heights do not bother me more than they bother most people. What gets to me is the acceleration around the curves--I tend to find that scary. We have a ride picture from Seven Dwarves Mine Train where the rest of my party is laughing and raising their arms and I am screeching with my eyes shut. Not a planned reaction! Still not sure whether to be brave enough to go on those rides, but thanks to everyone for the advice!

If you find acceleration around curves scary then Guardians and probably Everest might be a bit much...although I do feel like once you conquer them you'd feel amazing! But again just based on what you're saying it may be a little too intense for you. Tron accelerates into an outdoor sweep but it's not so bad. It's definitely the lesser of the three I mentioned. I would say for sure Slinky dog would be a good fit for you. If you don't mind up and down movement then it's a ton of fun!

I would try them all - what do you have to lose? If you like Tower of Terror, I think you would enjoy them all, with or without your eyes open. Good luck!

I would think for sure that you'd be fine on Slinky Dog, it's not a very intense coaster at all. Everest I could see being one you feel the need to close your eyes on, I would say it's a notch more intense than Big Thunder or Seven Dwarves. It certainly has higher drops than either of the two, but of course it's nowhere near as intense as Tower of Terror, so if you like that I'd think you'd be fine! Can't comment on Tron or Cosmic Rewind, but I think if you want to try them it's absolutely worth doing so!

I am hearing from many people recently that the got very sick from Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind. Has anyone else heard this, and does this seem worse than other same type rides?

I think you'd be fine with Tron... it's not a long ride and it feels 'secure' IYKWIM. Crazy Cat Boy gets quite motion sick and he was fine with that one - we did it twice on separate days both day and night and it didn't bother him.

We didn't do SDD as stand by was 70 mins that day, however, we did do Guardians twice on the trip (separate days) I LOVED it. It's hands down my new favourite ride - I'd ride it all day if Disney would let me ;).

I'd say do Guardians at least once - take some motion sickness meds timed to work with the ride if you have concerns. Crazy Cat Boy did feel off after the first ride, but it was so cool he was willing to risk it a second time (ILL both days).

We did Everest and really enjoyed that as well.

Note: Crazy Cat Boy took pre-emptive motion sickness meds on all park days, he's getting worse as he gets older. I do get a bit motion sick and the only time I felt really off during our trip was at USO on Forbidden Journey, I had to close my eyes on that for a bit.

HTH and have a fabulous trip.

Go for it ! I never would ride any thrill rides until last year and then I went on every one of them except mission space. I took bonine for motion sickness and I had a blast!

I'm a ride chicken I could never do the tower of terror and I chicken out on the trolls ride.
This trip I got courage and decided to try them all and I'm sooo happy I did.
Tron: This is really not bad at all there is the acceleration at the beginning but it's in a straight line and then it slows down to do the curve then it stops and there are couple of small drops kinds like seven dwarfs really not bad at all, try it at night.

Slinky: This is really fun and very mild on the drop it slows down so you don't really feel it, there is a small curve but it doesn't go too fast. It's fun

Guardians: This is probably the most intense but definitely the best and still doable I managed to do it 4 times and it got easier each time as I knew what to expect. This one launches you like Tron but backwards and then there is one curve that is a bit tight and after that there are no major drops it just spirals down.

Everest: This one would be totally fine if it wasn't for the backward curve that has GForce and seems to squeeze your heard. I did it once and I'm happy I did it but I have an hear issue and the gforce it's not good for it.

Overall what I have learnt is that you don't have to tense yourself but just relax and make yourself floppy and you will be able to take in the fun make sure you come back here to let us know how you went!.

If you close your eyes on Seven Dwarfs you will close your eyes on these as well. But they are so much fun! We love em all but Guardians seems to be our current favorite. It's so smooth. No loop or corkscrews, but still a thrill. And the music makes it even more entertaining.

As this is a fear issue rather than a health one, as a pp has said, what have you got to lose by going on them? The worst thing that could happen is you don't like them and never go on again!

Slinky is manageable regardless as while it's a nice ride, it's quite tame in comparison with the others.

Tron is fast but doesn't have any extreme corners so as long as you can put up with the slightly uncomfortable ride seat (didn't do anything for my back!) you'll be fine.

Everest and Guardians are the most extreme and certainly have acceleration around curves (and backwards too) but imo these are 2 of the best rides in all of WDW and worth trying at least once.

I am hearing from many people recently that the got very sick from Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind. Has anyone else heard this, and does this seem worse than other same type rides?
I had heard that and it made me very apprehensive about going on it, however if you take some motion sickness treatment beforehand you should be fine. I suffer from fairly bad motion sickness and anything that twists/turns is the worst, but before going on this i had motion sickness patches on and took 2 tablets while in the queue and I was fine. I actually loved it and it's now become my favourite ever ride. And I certainly didn't think it was as bad as Crush's Coaster in Paris (not quite the same ride style though).

I think guardians and Everest are very intense and I love roller coasters. Everest I could only do once. The backwards throws you into your seat with force which some people find fun but it was a lot. Some of it is in the dark. Guardians I did once and will never do again. It ruined my trip the rest of the day because the spinning and G forces messed me up. My daughter rode it this time and came off cold and clammy and said it was more scary than fun. I wanted off the first 20 seconds but obviously couldn’t. Everyone has different thresholds but those two I think are too much for me now. Everything else was fine for me.
