I need help! We are flying into Phoenix, AZ on June 12 and will be flying home out of Santa Barbara on June 22. Rental car prices are really high and I've been tracking them since around October of last year!

I'm looking at 2 different options:
  1. Rent at Phoenix Airport on 6/12, return in Anaheim near Disney on 6/15 (we won't need the car while there anyway). Rent again in Anaheim on 6/19 and return to Santa Barbara on 6/22. Or
  2. Rent at Phoenix Airport on 6/12 to keep the whole time and return to Santa Barbara Airport on 6/22. We have free parking at the hotel.

What would you do? It's expensive either way although it does say some money to turn it in for the days we are at Disney. I wanted an SUV, but it will save money if we get a midsize. I've got a tentative rental through National doing scenario #1 with an SUV.

Any advice or suggestions? Ways to save on this type of rental? Thanks!

I would go with National's cheaper option if you don't need the car while you're at Disneyland and you don't mind making taking the extra time to rent a car a second time. If you book a mid-size car, you could still get lucky and get a mid-size SUV on the Emerald Aisle (that happened to me the last time I rented from National). Interestingly though, when I checked prices for those dates in June, the cheapest rate I found was for a single rental for the entire trip using Enterprise.

Tried plugging your dates in with several of the better SUV discount codes from rentalcodes.com & enterprise still beat everything with their regular rate for your dates:

Probably the no-drop charge has a lot to do with it.

I wish I could find a one way with no drop charges like that one....:thumbsup2 anyway....when we rented out of PHX a couple years ago we saved a LOT by renting off airport, taking a cab to the rental place. We p/u In Phoenix, left it at LAX a couple of weeks later

Great find. That's why you really have to look around for a one way rental.

This is awesome! Thank you so much!!! I just reserved an SUV with Enterprise for $342.97. I am much, much happier with this rate!

This is why I love the disboards!!!

Thanks to all of you for your help!

Good to hear it worked for you. Will be much more convenient than trying to do 2 rentals.

I'd rather choose this. There might be circumstances that you might need the car.

Even better! Thanks! I used coupon code ENBKWY2, which is good through 6/30/13, and went directly through the enterprise site.

I am so glad I booked this when I did! I was able to get the intermediate SUV for $316.78. Now when I look at them it's over $500. Timing is everything! Of course, I'll keep checking up until our trip to see if I can do any better. I'm pretty happy with the $316 for a 10 day one-way rental though!

Thanks again for everyone's help!
