Advice on Nikon Coolpix 8700

Anyone have a Nikon Coolpix 8700 that can give me some advice on taking pictures off of Auto Exposure? I would like to try to take some pictures by adjusting the focus etc, but not sure exactly what I need to know.

I have been playing with it on Auto Exposure, but want to break out of that and get more adventurous. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This may sound like a silly question. Have you read the user manual. Way back in the stone age when I got my first camera the last thing I did was read the manual.

If you don't have a manual go to their site (link below). If you want to print it you will need the camera serial number otherwise you can read it on the website.
