My DD8 is still using training wheels. We've raised them up slightly off of the ground to try to help her to find her center of balance. Unfortunately, she is very afraid of the tipping feeling and now refuses to ride at all. She does have balance issues. Things that require balance takes her more time to master. Does anyone have any ideas on how to teach her to ride a 2 wheeler and help her with her tipping fears?

We always just put them on the bike, we held the handle bar with one hand and held the back of the seat with the other and let them pedal and we ran beside them and then let go... may sound crazy but it worked with all 7 of mom's grandkids. Although one always pedaled and forgot you had to steer the bike too!!

Good luck! By 8yo, I'm thinking she probably has this fear pretty well in her head, ya know?

Don't have any advice for you, but tell your DD she isn't the only kid like that. My 6 1/2 yo DD is exactly the same way. She absoutely hates the feeling of the bike tipping back and forth and leans to one side all the time wearing out only one training wheel while the other one looks just like new!!!!

Good Luck to your DD. I am sure she will master bike riding eventually.

There was another thread here on the CB a couple of days ago. They suggested finding a grassy hill (with a slight slope) and having your child coast down the hill a few times to get the hang of balance. It turns out that this was how we taught our youngest (who was also very afraid to fall off and hurt herself) how to ride her bicycle. Within a week, she was riding like a pro. Good luck.
