My husband and I are going with the kids. This is the first time that we won't have anyone else there to hold the camera if need be. We have a digita camera and I have a 35 MM SLR with an extra lens. Sometimes we may just carry the digital. But anyway, I was wondering how people have kept their camera safe on rides if all go on or how you have kept it dry. We also have a small digital camcorder too and I don't want anything to happen to any of them. I wish they had lockers near the water rides !! : )

We never had a problem w/ the jarring on the rides. We always just keep the camera in the case. As for getting wet. Well, there's only 2 you have to worry about. Spalsh-- which I put the camera in it's case then put it in the backpack. Not a drop- never had a problem. As for Kali. Either rent a locker and utilitze it (not in the most convienent spot). Another option is to put the camera case in a double ziploc bag. Then use the rafts bin to put it in. I never liked using the bin, because at least 1/2 the time there is no room left in there. Too many people put multiple huge bags in it. So, we get a locker. We use the locker at AK anyhow because it's the 1 park we bring a change of clothing too for after Kali anyways.

We bring our digital camera in a leather case that can attach to a belt and one fanny pack. A couple zip lock bags to keep things waterproof was all we needed. Most rides are not wet rides anyway. Not that wet anyway. I would suggest picking up a couple of waterproof disposables - less stress = more fun.

I carry my cameras on a wide shoulder strap, cross-body (like New York women carry their purses). The strap is wide enough to be comfy, and long enough to pull the camera up to shooting position when I need it. This also allows me to keep the camera pretty much in my lap during most rides, usually over the safety bar. On thrill rides like Rock and Roller Coaster and Star Tours, I put it in the bin (if provided) or on the floor between my feet with the strap wrapped around my wrist.

For protection on water rides or in rain, I carry a 1-gallon Ziploc bag with me. I cut about 1/2" off the bottom corners, pass the clips of my carry strap through the holes and re-clip them onto the camera, and Viola! Instant camera poncho. It's so good, you would have to actually immerse the camera, for several minutes, to get enough water into the bag to be dangerous to the camera. And when not in use, the bag folds up small enough to fit into a pocket.

ooh thanks for the suggestions, I hadn't even really thought of the question and it is important one too.
