Advice on booking trip

I am looking to book a trip in November in a few weeks. I was hoping to do a split stay between and Epcot resort for 3 nights and a MK resort for 3 nights. I know that the odds are not in my favor for getting the resorts. I was thinking of booking my home resort for 6 nights so at least I'd have something. But then if I want to modify it I"d have to call MS and lose that extra hour for online booking. Can I book 2 separate ressies for my home resort that way I can cancel the first part if I find something better without cancelling the whole 6 nights? So say I book 3 nights at SS and then another 3 nights at SS. Then I can check availabilty for first 3 nights and switch, and do so online....and then 3 days later try to switch the last part of the trip. Hope this makes sense. I was even thinking of doing SS 2BR for 3 nights and 2 studios for the last 3 so the ressies would'nt get merged. Plus we were hoping to do 2 studios for 2nd half of trip anyway since I"m low on points and they'd be less, although I know availability will be less as well. I might even have ot buy points from Disney for the dreaded $15 a point.

Nothing keeps you from splitting your SSR stay into 2 reservations. If you end up not moving, MS can combine the 2 reservations into 1 later.

Split stays interrupt your vacation and we only do them when we have longer stays. You are there for a relaxing vacation, not spending so much time checking in, checking out, moving, checking in, checking out.

What you don't do this vacation, you can do the next. You are into Disney for the long haul and you will have years and years to stay everywhere many times over.

Thanks Bill. Well the reason we were looking into a split stay is the first half of the trip we will be doing Epcot, DHS and AK and the second half MK so in the long run it would be easier to get to the parks if we were closer. Check in and out is pretty easy these days. And we'd be leaving AK after lunch and then go straight to MK resort which would be ready by then. So doesn't seem that disruptive. But thanks for the advice! Still trying to find pros and cons so all comments are helpful!

We now take a MK vacation and the next time an Epcot/DHS vacation. Again you will spend plenty of time in all of the parks over the next several years, they will always be there.

Not changing resorts and spending time on Disney transportation lets me sleep in.

I would book the 2 reservations at SSR with different lead names. I had done something like this prior and MS combined the two reservations into 1!

That was what I worried about too, so I was thinking of booking a 2BR and then a studio as there would be less chance of them doing that. Although using different lead names is a good idea as well, although a few times I've used my name and the emails use other people in my party's name LOL
