Advice On Bee/Wasp Stings Please

Hi Guys

Just had a frantic phone call from my mum, who has been stung on the arm by a bee/wasp, she is not sure which one.

My sister who was with her at the time seems pretty sure that she managed to get the sting out for my mum, but mum is really upset and in a little pain with some minor swelling.

Do you have any advice whatsoever what she can put on it to relieve the pain and swelling, Im only glad that it is in her left arm and not the right one, as she has no lymph glands in her right arm after having them removed after being diagonised with Breast Cancer and has to be careful with that arm.

She is popping to boots in a couple of hours, but I dont know what to suggest in the meantime.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Oh Sue, I hope your mum is OK. I've only had to deal with one sting in the past and thankfully we managed to get the sting out with no probs and then we bought some Wasp-ease which helped

Sue ~ I would suggest putting on bicarbonate of soda and some vinegar Hope your mum is ok soon

One of my colleagues was stung the other day on her way to work by the late afternoon I had to go with her to the local hospital as her arm had swollen up so much. Basically, all she was told to do was to take an antihistimine tablet for as long as the arm was swollen, keep the arm elevated (neither of us was quite sure how she was supposed to do that ) and to go see her GP if the swelling got any worse. A couple of days later and her arm is getting better. Hope this helps with your mum Sue and her arm is okay.

Another thing I've found to be very good for stings, after DD fell into stinging nettles twice last week, is to rub the affected area with an ice cube till it's very cold and then apply Sudocream this might help with a bee/wasp sting as well.

Thanks guys for your quick responses

I have phoned mum and told her to ask for wasp-eze at the chemist and in the meantime she has put Bicarb and water paste on there and a little bit of vineger, and then finished off with some Savlon.

She informs me that the pain is a little easier but she smells like a bag of fish and chips, thanks to the vineger

Hope the smell is distracting her from the initial shock

I was going to suggest cutting the point of entry with a knife and getting someone to suck the poison out! But remembered that is for snake bites

I thought I read somewhere that a bee sting can cure a wasp's sting and vice-versa. Don't think your mum would like it though!!
