Advice Needed

Hello - my boyfriend and I are planning a trip in May and for one week. I have been to Disney multiple times and he has not been in over 20 years so I want it to be special. I am having a hard time choosing between the following...

1. First two nights at Pop Century and the last 5 nights at the Contemporary.
2. Full 7 nights at Port Orleans Riverside. This option is $600 cheaper than the first. I have stayed at POR a few times.

Would you spend the extra money to stay Deluxe for a few nights or save the money for other items? I appreciate your input.

I'd do PoR personally. It's my favorite resort on property. Plus $600 buys a lot of food and souvenirs.

Two adults ..... save the money, stay at POR and do some of the special stuff. There are so many great things to do - tours, dining events, dessert parties, etc. Book California Grill on top of Contemporary for dinner to coincide with fireworks!

Much as I Love CR it seems sensible to do the 7 nights at POR. You coud do a few extra special experiences with $600.

I would have to agree with option 2. I don't think the extra money for a deluxe is worth it for just 2 guests. I would save money on the room and use the money for something else.

plus at POR you can have fun with Yee ha bob! at the river roost! and take a boat to disney springs for adult fun (raglan road, house of blues, splitsville bowling, etc etc

POR...spring for a carriage ride and enjoy the boat to DSp.

I also agree that POR is the way to go, it is a nice resort, and with that money saved, there are so many other things to do.

I think that it is not just a matter of the savings, but for a first trip back, I would not want to move around.

If you think he would like a more "deluxe" feel, I would also consider CSR. That resort often comes in a little less expensive and is pretty darn sweet.

At the risk of being an odd ball, i am thinking.. 2 nights at POP and 5 nights at Contemporary is the way to go.. I assume that since your debating between the 2, the $600 savings is not a make or break deal. I have stayed at POP, POR but never Contemporary and perhaps that is my driving force. We did stay at GF once and being on the monorail is a PERK that is hard to beat if you go to the PARKS EVERYDAY. I can't wait to stay at a Monorail resort again..

I am sure that no matter which you choose, it will be a magical vacation.

Tough call, and all the previous posters make superb points. As you've stayed at POR a few times before, I might opt for CR and the availability of the monorail, the ability to walk--walk--to MK whenever you wanted, and the generally very nice amenities at that resort. I don't believe you can go wrong either way, though. Have fun deciding!

As someone who hasn't been in 13 years, I'd have to say that if I were being "brought" there, I'd really think that CR was special. (Maybe that's why we chose CR for our upcoming dream trip.) But either way, it'll be awesome!

I would choose the POR option. I just can't see taking the time and energy to change resorts in the middle of my stay. I unpack and nest, so that thought of trying to pack up everything, just to unpack it all again sounds not fun. Plus, POR is beautiful, has an awesome pool, and carriage rides to boot. You are also closer to Disney Springs, which I would highly recommend taking advantage of a visit their via boat. Have a great time no matter what you choose.

I think staying at Port Orleans would be the better option. Port Orleans is a beautiful resort make no mistake, and the $600 dollars can certainly be spent elsewhere. Also I've never been a fan of changing resorts mid-trip. To me it seems crazy to take time out of a day to pack everything up only to unpack it once again at another resort, especially if you are using Disney transportation. Hopping on a park bus with all your luggage only to get off and get back on a bus to the Contemporary.

Honestly I think this is really up to you and what is in your budget being that you have already stayed at POR, a change to CR might be a nice change of pace.

Thank you for all of the advice everyone! In an odd change of events we have decided to go with Wilderness Lodge. I will be booking a bounce back when I check in next Saturday so if it is not available I will be going with POR instead. Thanks again.

POR is great and we have enjoyed staying there. You might also consider the Swan. It is walkable to Epcot, the Boardwalk and the Studios and gets most of the perks of the Disney hotels. We especially like the extra space of the Alcove rooms. These rooms are somewhat "L" shaped since they are in the corners of the hotel and have a separate living area with a sectional that's great for relaxing. It offers discounts for AAA and some others. The hotel also has some great restaurants.

I would say Contemporary! I stayed there on my last trip and it was amazing. It was the first time I've stayed in a Deluxe resort and I'm totally hooked now. It was so convenient to get to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot and if you want to go to the Grand Floridian or Polynesian it's only a monorail trip away. Also having the monorail go through your hotel is an awesome experience. I went with just my boyfriend it was a romantic trip and the hotel definitely contributed to that factor.
