We just found out last weekend that we are pregnant and we are leaving Friday for Disneyworld. :cool1: We are trying to decide which rides would be safe to do and which to avoid. I know that some rides warn pregnant people to ride but I don't think they are all bad. For example, Splash mountain and Space mountain. They don't go upside down and there is no G force that I am aware of.
Even though I have ridden them all a lot and think that some aren't bad..... pretty much just those two out of all of them...... I keep thinking what if. Sometimes I think the warnings are for people further along.
What would you guys do?

We went down in January when I was nearly 4 months along. I skipped the BIG rides (all the "mountains", including Everest) and anything that warned against pregnant ladies riding but did the Safari over at AK even though there was a warning. I just sat up by the front of the truck.

I think I read somewhere that with Splash Mountain, it's not necessarily about the "G force" but more about the way you sit in the ride -- your knees are elevated a bit and could put pressure on your abdomen...

If you check over at allears, there's an article by someone who went while pregnant. It's a pretty good resource. Also, there are several threads on the boards here -- try searching for them.

All in all though, it's a matter of choice, especially this early on. If you feel like you would be able to ride them, then ride them.

Congratulations! And have fun! I have "Disney envy" since we're not going until next year (somehow, I think we're going to have our hands full in the near future though! haha!)

Call your OB/GYN, they can give you the best advice. But at this stage I doubt there's any ride you would get on that would cause you any problems. That said, if it were me, I'd avoid anything extremely rough. A smooth "drop" like on Splash Mtn, no prob.

We went when I was at about 5 months, but I, too, did the Safari at AK and avoided all the roller coasters. We had a wonderful time, but I did have a few pangs about missing out on rides I would have enjoyed. My husband had a particularly great time - he could use both his and my ticket to get fast passes, so he had very few waits all week.

I was really morning (noon, and night) sick for the first four months (and somewhat for the next three months, including the week at WDW.) I didn't want to do anything that might set me off, so I definitely stayed on the cautious side. There really was still a lot I could do, so I didn't feel seriously deprived.

One real warning - I did notice that I got hot very quickly... I actually over-heated at AK and passed out while waiting for the bus to take us back to our hotel. (They had to call an ambulance, and I was ordered to stay in a wheelchair for the last few days of the trip, which felt completely strange and awkward to me.) So my advice is to give yourself a little extra relaxation and air-conditioned time, and drink lots of cold (non-caffeinated) drinks.

I went to DL when I was 4 weeks, but didn't know it. Went on everything, I found out 3 days after we got back. Although everything was fine, I'm glad I didn't know or I might have been worried the rest of the pregnancy. I would stick to the tame rides.

Honestly? As long as I was that early in the pregnancy, I'd ride everything. In fact, I did...although I didn't realize it at the time. I found out 2 weeks after returning from WDW that I was pregnant while there. We had not been TTC so it was a surprise, and I had never considered the possibility before that moment! IMO, before 12 weeks there is very little risk to the baby in such activities. However, you should consult your health care provider and then do your own research and come up with the answer. I would absolutely go on everything in your situation. Good luck!

ETA: We returned to WDW when I was five months pregnant. At that time, I did follow the posted recommendations for pregnant women. However, the situation was so much different by then. Once the baby is lifted up out of the pelvis, there is a real risk in those activities, IMO.

Thanks everyone for your advice. You have really helped to put my mind at ease. It's just scary being a first time mom and the unknowns. THANK YOU!! :thumbsup2

Well, when I was pregnant with #2, my rule was that until the placenta is formed and being used, I would ride whatever at the parks. I live close to DLR and I found out I was pg when I was just 4 weeks along, and for the next few weeks, I sure did get my fill of the roller coasters! When I was about 8 weeks pregnant, at that point, I stopped riding the restricted rides. In the early stages of the pregnancy, the major dangers associated with fast rides and G-forces are that they could cause the placenta to detach from the uterus (which will result in miscarriage) and that the forces could rupture the tiny blood vessels just being formed. Until the placenta even exists and there are blood vessels, there is no danger from theme park rides.

You are SO early in your pregnancy that your baby is just a mass of cells inside a liquid sac. There is virtually nothing YOU can do to cause harm at this point (short of taking drugs that cause miscarriage).

I would perhaps speak to your doctor, but I'm sure you will get the go ahead to enjoy all the rides for the last time for awhile!

We pretty much had the same experience, although I gave my own little pass out show when we got off the Maelstrom in Epcot. I did a lot of the rides-no coasters, SplashM or Tot though. My "eggs" did not come out scrambled as a result-although I bet the teacups made DS VERY dizzy! :rotfl:

WOW!! I'm impressed at how much knowledge you have. I have been researching a long time for info about the first few weeks. Pretty much my only biggest fear is Mission Space and Tower of Terror so I'll stay away from them. Thanks for your info!!! :)
