I will be around 12 weeks pregnant when we arrive at WDW later this month. I know I won't be able to go on some of the rides I had originally planned to do....so tell me - what do you recommend to a pregnant mama? My DH & my DS (3) will also be with me on this trip. I have been there once before, but neither my DH or my DS has. I want to have as much fun as possible, without overdoing it. Any suggestions?

Hi. You should always follow you doctor's recommendations. Last year we were on the same situation (DW pregnant and DD3). She rode lots of attractions and had a great time. Anyway the rides you'll not be able to get into are the same attractions you wouldn't have been able to ride with your son (asking for parent swap).

We even got together in kali river rapids, and had no problems.

She didn't ride: Rock n roller coaster, Tower of terror, mission space spinning (I dont remember if there were other rides in the no list).

She did ride: Soaring, Splash Mtn, Big thunder Mtn.

Space Mtn was being refurbished at that time.

Apart from protecting the baby, the limit is sometimes set by how the mother feels (motion sickness,etc.).

Hope this helps, but please refer to your doctor for specific advice. Common sense plays a relevant role in defining which attractions you will ride.

Good luck and have fun,

Mx

PS: Ah! As you can see from my signature everything went fine aftewards. :thumbsup2

I've been to Disney twice pregnant. Both times very near the 12 week point. There are many rides that you can't go on, or that Disney recommend that you not go on. I did go on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride. Its just a little bumpy. (nothing worse than our bad streets around here) I would make sure you have plenty to eat and drink as well as time to rest. There is plenty other stuff to do. My main tips...

-comfy shoes
-plenty of water
-plenty of snacks
-extra rest time if you are feeling tired
-if its hot when you go take time to cool off in either the pool or an airconditiond attraction

Any more questions feel free to ask! Hope you have a great time!!

Congratulations! I actually found out I was pregnant while we were there in 2008. Most of the rides that you shouldn't ride have warnings for pregnant women. The only one I didn't pay attention to was Soarin. Everything else I chose to sit out. I just don't feel that it's worth it to take a chance. We go every other year so I knew I'd be back soon enough to enjoy the rides I missed. I agree though that you should talk to your doctor. I'm sure he/she has gotten the question before and will be able to help you make safe decisions. Don't worry to much about it though. The wonderful thing about Disney is that you can still have an amazing time even if you don't go on a single ride!

According to our doctor, bumps weren't such a big deal on the third month because of the baby being so small and having lots of liquid to protect him.

We were advised to skip rides with strong G Forces. And those were the rides we passed.

There are several threads here with lots of tips (the ones I checked last year).

But what Suchthe tells you is also true, If you are not sure about riding an attraction, then it's not worth it.

Have Fun,

Mx

My ob is also a disney nut and she ok'd me to do the following attractions (that disney says preggos can't go on) (I was 14 week pregnant for this trip) - splash mountain, thunder mountain, kilimanjaro safaris, and soarin'. She doesn't like space mountain though, she said it's too jarring.

My 2nd preggo trip I was 6 months along and kind of big so I didn't do any of the preggo restrictions rides because 1 - I didn't want a disney employee to yell at me and 2 - I'd have to do them alone since we had ds who was 3.5 years old. It was VERY hot that trip too, and I wasn't really "into" the trip during the sunlight hours LOL! :)

Comfy shoes, nap break, lots of water, pop in and out of shops to cool off, and frequent snacks and good meals are all important whether you're home or at Disney pregnant!

Have fun!!

Since you will be arriving in the middle of the summer, be cautious of the heat and stay hydrated. Take your tile and no need to push yourself or rush through your vacation. Congrats on your pregnancy and enjoy your trip.:cool1::banana:

Thanks for this post!
just found out today (well took a home test)! and we go to disney in the end of august so i was worried! :goodvibes

I have gone pregnant a few times and never rode any of the big rides ( whether i was early in pregnancy or not) i did go on anything without a height restriction...except for Kilimanjaro, i just asked for the front row.
Take it easy, stop to rest and put your feet up and drink water and then drink more.

I know people are saying that BTMR is fine, but that's one I would skip. The last time I rode it, it was so jarring that I was sore when I got off. I don't know why that is; I don't remember it being that bad several years ago. Maybe I'm just getting old...?

Hi! I'm sorry to drag this thread back out, but... I read the whole thing and the thread suggested 4 posts previous, and they were great. I have a question for you guys about a couple of specific rides.

Here's the sitch:
My DH and I are WDW vets. We're taking our 4yr-old for his second trip for only 2 days in Sept (we're doing other stuff in FL). This trip is special for him because he is now over 40" and has a list of the rides he wants to try. I will be in my 6th month of pregnancy. I've done WDW before for a week while pg, but I was in my 4th month and not visibly pg. This time, let's just say there won't be any doubt. We're probably only going to hit Epcot and Magic Kingdom on this trip.

I will be: drinking tons of water, taking it easy, taking breaks back at the room after lunch.

I will not be: trying to do it all, riding ToT, Space Mountain, Everest, Dinosaur, BTMR, anything spinning.

Here's the rides I want advice on, and only because I need to see his little face when he tries them for the first time:

Soarin'
Test Track
Splash Mountain
Maelstrom

Advice?

Thanks! --Jenny

Soarin' should be okay

Test Track if I remember correctly the belts are pretty tight. The last time I was on it my stomach hurt from the break test. So I wouldn't think that would be good for the baby.

Splash Mountain I didn't do but I normally don't do this unless my DH forces me. I think it should be okay as long as you brace yourself with your feet on the drop.

Maelstrom I also didn't do this one. For some reason every time I go on this ride I get hurt. I just think is jarring. I'm sure its just me though.

These are only my opinions on what rides should be okay. I wouldn't make any final decisions about what rides you will go on until the day of. You never know how you will be feeling.

I hope this helps.

Soarin' - I skipped it when preggo, but it tends to make me nauseous when I'm not... I would say OK to it.
Test Track - absolutely not. no way, no how. not advisable at all. way too jarring.
Splash Mountain - yes, did it, love it, ob ok'd it!
Maelstrom - (does it have a restriction??) love it, didn't ask ob about it because i never thought twice about it?

have fun!!!!

I am 14 weeks preggo and we were there 2 weeks ago. I didn't take any afternoon breaks back at the hotel during the 10 days we were there. We did take alot of water and snacks into the parks with us. While my DH and my DD6 were on rides that I couldn't ride, I would shop in stores near the attraction.
I paid attention to the rides with restrictions.
I didn't ride Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain,Space Mountain, or Barnstormer at MK.
EPCOT I didn't ride Test Track, Mission Space, or Malestrom.
HS I didn't ride Rockin' Roller Coaster or TOT
Animal Kingdom I didn't ride Everest, Kilomajaro or Primeval Whirl
We rode pretty much everything we could. I didn't have any problems with Soarin'. We would get into the parks in the AM and would stay as late as my DD could hold up! One night we were in MK until 2am.
Have fun, relax and listen to your body. You will have a great time!

Soarin' does not have an expectant mother's warning, not sure why it keeps coming up. It is perfectly safe while pregnant.

Maelstrom is also not on that list, so it should be OK.

I've done Safari while 17w pregnant, just make absolutely sure you ask for the front row, you will get sick if you're in the back (It is like a school bus on a dirt road).

Everything else with a warning I avoided. The risk for doing rides with G-forces is placental abruption, and while it doesn't happen often, I'm not going to bet a baby's life on it.
