Hi all,

I didn’t even realize this Purchasing forum existed and am glad to have found it! Long-term BWV owner and own a couple of contracts there. However I impulsively (for me ☺) bought a new 125 point contract at VGF yesterday. Excited about planning some split stays!

However, after sleeping on it last night and re-running numbers this morning, I realized I really need 150 points to do the types of stays I’d like. I already DocuSigned yesterday… Can this be unwound? 😬 I assume I can as I’m within the 10 day cancellation period, but guessing my guide is not going to be pleased. I haven’t bought a contract in over 20 years so guess I was a bit too impulsive. Has anyone had to do something like this?

Another reason for unwinding it is that with 150 points I’d be able to add both of my grown sons onto the contract so they can become DVC members themselves . Originally my guide had suggested I could just do that via a title change to my BWV points but I have 3 different contracts there and really don’t want to mess that up with new membership numbers etc. Not to mention the $1000+ cost of doing so.

Finally, I’m thinking I’d like to split this 150 VGF point purchase up into two 75-point contracts in case I ever want to unload one. I’ll just put both sons on both contracts to qualify them for membership. Any reason not to do it this way, although I’m assuming closing costs will increase?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, much appreciated.

I assume you mean VGF? And yes, you can change it and they will send you the voided contract and then the new ones.

That’s what I did when we went from 150 to 300 so we could get the larger incentive!

Yes, thanks, fixed. And glad to hear that!

That's easy to get it changed. Just call your guide.

However they are almost definitely going to make you keep it in a single 150pt contract since you'll be adding new members (your sons). They now require a 150 pt minimum and stick to it pretty well. If it were just you adding on then you could go 75/75.

If you are buying MORE points… your guide will be VERY happy to change the contract. Trust me. Even if you are passed the 10 days, and if you are adding points they will allow you to change it as long as the contract hasn’t closed (final payment received).

Oh OK, so even though they would both be owners of 150 points (as they would both be listed on both 75 point contracts) the 150 point new member requirement has to be all in one contract? I just checked DVC website and it uses the word accumulate, so this is why I thought it could be across 2 contracts:

Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc

The accumulate works for current owners. Any new owners have reported they had to get at least one 150 point contract when buying in direct if it's their 1st contract. They could buy a small resale and then start accumulating towards the 150 or split it into 2 contracts because they'd already be members but I don't think that's really the thing you're looking for. Never hurts to ask the guide though. Maybe an exception could be gotten.

but new owners can't buy vgf right now. I bet he will be fine.

Ah, got it. Thanks for clarifying. Language on website certainly is a bit misleading. It’s not the end of the world either way but yes I’ll see if I can get that approved. Interestingly, he did tell me if I added them onto the title of any of my smaller existing contracts, even if those contracts are below 150 they would automatically become members regardless of the point amount in the contract, which doesn’t seem to make sense either (of course there would be a charge to do that as I’d have to go through a title company).

The reason it works is because they allow you to do a gratuitous transfer and retain all benefits. While you would not be transferring but adding them, it still works the same way. Once they were owners on your small contract, you could then add on two 75 point contracts with them but both would have to be maintained to keep the benefits if the small one you currently own was ever sold.

Talk to your guide about adding your sons to the deeds so that they will be blue card members. It’s all in the family. Seems a little ridiculous. We changed the deed on a small 50 point contract so that our son would be a member. At the time I had lots of other stress going on and just paid the title company that DVC uses to do the transfer. But you can do it much cheaper yourself....there is a long thread on this board that gives you a step by step guide.
I would make sure you mention to your guide that you want to increase to 150, two 75 point contracts with everyone’s name, for the purpose of 150 points total so they are full members. I’m sure he can make it happen.
Enjoy your new resort!

He is already an owner though and will just be adding additional family. That will mean a new membership which is why it is likely they'll require a single 150 pt contract but pricing will fall under current member pricing.

If it were just the two non-member sons who would be purchasing then they'd have to wait.

It does seem absolutely crazy. So if they say no and I want to keep it as two 75-point contracts I have to wait until it closes and then go to a title company, and add them each on to one of the new 75 point contracts, and then they each will become members with only 75 pts each. Makes no sense! And I’m out $1000 or so.🥴

Adding your sons to a contract(s) will create a new membership and you would not be able to combine/pool BWV and VGF points at 7 months. Would need to do a transfer or book separate reservations on each membership.

Yes I’m aware of this, thank you. I believe I was told that I can link the membership to my dashboard however. I hope that is true!
By the way, if I add them to the new contracts after I close and pay the title company etc., does that also establish a new membership number?

That won’t work. The contracts you are buying today are only eligible when they add to 150. If you buy without them, and add them later, one to each, they won’t have blue card benefits because the would not own 150. You would have to add them to both contracts.

You would now have it because you did meet it,…your name is on both..both with the old and the new. But the benefits go with the contract and it’s based on the rules at the time you buy the contract

But, at any point in time if your sons fall below 150, unless added to the older one, they lose the benefits.

Even if you bought today with just the two 75 point contracts and later sold one of those and the older one, you would then lose benefits.

Even for you to remain a blue card owner, you have to keep the grandfathered contract or keep ownership of at least 150 direct points from this point forward.

Thanks - lots of conflicting info. @Dizzydizney said above they did it with a 50 pt contact (added their son to become a member) . And both my DVC guide and the DVC Quality Assurance team told me on Saturday that if you add a name to an existing contract it does not matter the size of the contract - they will become members without the 150 pt requirement. Will have to see what happens!

It's the date of purchase of the qualified contract that they would be added to that defines how many points they need to own. It's been various levels and DizzyDizney did not say when that 50 pt contract was purchased but it would have been at a time where 50 points or less qualified one for a blue card. Sandi is correct that if you purchased two 75 point contracts now and only added them each to one that neither would be blue card owners. You could add them to both for 150 pts total and they would.

However it sounds like your BWV contract goes back quite some time when just owning qualified you and it's grandfathered in. So even if that were just 25 points if you added them both to that they would also get the same blue card and perks as you do.

Nothing like DVC to make discounts on a t-shirt so complicated!

You can link the new membership to your DVC login. It will still show up as a different membership but will all be under one login.

And yes, if you were to add them after purchase DVC would create a new membership for those contracts.
