Hello to my fellow Canadian Disney lovers,

I currently have a trip planned for June 30-July 8 but am unsure if this will be a safe time to travel or not. I have not booked flights as yet but have my resort booked with my DVC points. Do you think the border will open to leisure travel by July? Will Disney be at full capacity or on modified experience? I know there are no answers to be had as yet but I am throwing this out there as a "what would you do" question. Thank you for any advice you may be able to offer. :)

My best answer is “wait and see”. I have travel plans for mid-July, a bus trip within my province. I am fully prepared to hear that travel within the province is not allowed until June 1st. (Really hoping it’s sooner than that, as I have relatives working in the travel industry).
As to cross-border travel, I think there will be a big push on in the US to have all travel up and running for July 4th, if not earlier. Not sure how many airlines will even survive Covid-19-related problems. I would wait until May 1 before purchasing air travel.

I am in the same boat. If Trump actually starts ramping down on the current precautions like he is contemplating doing, then we will likely cancel in July even if the border is open and Disney is running. Our flights and resort are booked, and I'm not canceling anything until we get closer to July.

Nobody has any answers right now. Things are changing day by day.

Even if everything slows down in terms of the spread, there could/will be a second wave to hit. I'm thankful my trip isn't until December, but even then, who knows...

Truthfully, no one really knows but most models show a second wave either a few weeks after the current one (i.e. summer) or late fall/early winter. :( Just have a plan in place if it happens.

Our family decided not to make plans for this summer until last minute and we will probably stay local. Furthest we would go would be Toronto to visit close friends (we live in Montreal). After cancelling our August cruise I looked at visiting Alberta but I don't want to fly anywhere or go to a crowded touristic place for at least a year. Just to be cautious and even 12 months might not be enough. So our AB trip will probably be in late summer 2021 or 2022, not before.

I would cancel personally. Way too many ifs, but while I think they'll be open, I also think that they will only be partially open. I think there'll be a lot of stuff still shut down or not offered (shows, characters, some rides etc....). Myself, there's no way I would pay that kind of money to travel from Canada for a partial experience.

That said, I really don't think I would feel comfortable yet. Trump is NOT handling it well at all, and after today, sounds more like he's just going to let Covid run rampant so he can keep lining his pockets. Even if things are open, I suspect there'll still be quite a bit of circulation.

I keep hinting to hubby that we need to cancel our June trip to New Hampshire. So far he won't hear of it. Wants me to wait till the last second. Well, I can tell you right now, unless we all receive a miracle and Covid suddenly disappears, I don't think I'll feel comfortable traveling stateside to a popular tourist town in a mere 12 weeks. Now, renting a cottage on a private beach in PEI, sure. 😁

Every July, my family, my parents, my sister's family goes to KOA Cavendish on PEI for a week camping. They have TONS of Americans that come in their giant motorhomes for the summer, or passing through. TONS of Asians on bus tours to see Anne of Green Gables. I'll be interested to see how the Island fairs if the Canadian border, heck even the provincial borders, stay closed through the summer.

Hm....you kinda just crushed my plan. Tonnes of Asian and US tourists. Ok, need a new place to go! But I agree, I think this will probably be a very hard year for PEI, especially Cavendish.

I'm curious who will be pushing to open the border first - US or Canada. I can see the US. I think their border towns rely on our shopping and tourism dollars far more than the other way around. I know when the CDN dollar drops, the border towns near us basically die out. Businesses close left right and center. Yet, when the CDN was stronger, it didn't affect our shops at all. If anything, we boomed. So I feel like with our dollar so low, which hurts them, they're going to want every last penny they can get from us.

We are in the same boat we have an early July WDW trip 7-16 booked but we planned on doing a beach stay first so booked a flight into Tampa on July 3rd (didn't book the accommodations yet). Our flight is on SW out of Buffalo and with NY having so many cases it's concerning (I know most are in NYC but it's worrisome). I am leaning towards cancelling but can't bring myself to do it just yet.

Its a all a big wait and see. I had to cancel April (so disappointed, missing out both magnets at Epcot, Earth Day at Animal Kingdom) ... so we are playing rebook by ear. Have to wait until the border opens; then we'd like to go within the first 6 weeks before it starts to get busy with all the people rebooking. ... how long WDW is closed will also determine when trip will happen, as have AP that expires July 1 - but is being extended by as many days as WDW is closed.

I’m doing the wait & see. 2 trips booked to WDW. First 2 weeks of Aug, and End of Nov/Dec. There’s plenty of time to cancel if I have to. We have room only. No packages.
Trump pushing to have everything open by Easter and packed churches :scared1: is pretty scary. I hope we keep our border shut to all but essential travel for awhile longer and it’s safe to open. We live just above Washington which is a hot bed of virus.

I will admit, some of the stats coming from the US are worrying me. They don't seem to believe in social distancing, and some places are as bad as Italy or worse now... It's early days yet and I am still believing I will get to go away in December. But not so sure about this summer. China was about 3 or 4 months to get through the worst and that was with lock downs. The US doesn't seem to want to do that so how long will it take? 4 months from now is late July. I mean sure, Disney will probably open by then, but will it be limited?

I saw on CBC that the US wants to post military on our border... I wondered if it's to keep them from coming here? That would make more sense right now than people from Canada trying to sneak down there... at least in my head!!

No idea what the rational for posting Military is. There’s more of a problem with refugees illegally crossing from US here.

You saw that correctly, cheeto-head has said he wants to set up military to block CANADIANS from entering because, you know, to prevent COVID-19 carriers from infiltrating the United States . Trudeau has confirmed this BTW

Oh dear. From what I've been reading Canada is doing a better job of "planking the curve" than the US, by a lot. So hey, if they want to put military to stop US people from coming here, have at it! Scary times.

I'm seething over this latest blunder, not only are we doing better at *starting* (and i stress we're only STARTING, we have a long way to go yet, IMHO) to flatten the curve but today the USA passed Italy in the number of new cases in the last 24 hours. Within a few hours they will have past the total number of cases per country -- even more than China

This is a great website that shows the numbers worldwide
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
If you don't want to look at the whole page here's the numbers of importance for the top 4 countries (not a winning place that anyone wants to earn!) The most troubling number is the new cases in the last 24 hours - i cut and added Canada to the bottom for comparision
