Help! I've just been telephoned and told I've won a holiday (well they might have just said flights, I was a bit shocked so got confused). I do remember entering it online. They say I need to ring a free telephone number and quote the reference I've given them and I only need to pay a £29.50 per person booking fee and I can take it anytime up to 18 months.

Do you think this is for real?

I'd be wary if they make you pay anything. If you have won, why would they want a booking fee? They would be the ones to book it on your behalf surely?

Did they say who they were? If not, ring the free number and ask them who they are, then tell them you'll ring back later and google it. Find out what you can about them.

It sounds like a scam to me, but if you remember entering it, and they're giving you a free number to ring (they normally make you ring premium numbers if it's a scam) then you might have been one of the lucky ones!

Claire the thing i've always been told when doing competitions is you should NEVER have to pay anything!! To me it sounds abit of a con plus the number is probably a £1 per min too.

Sounds like a time-share thing to me, they always say you have won a holiday - usually Spain, Portugal etc wherever they have places to sell.

Sara. :)

Claire, try googling the number before you win it - if it's a scam, then you should find out that way. I agree with the others, you should never have to pay anything if you have won.

As others have said Claire, look into it fully before committing, but good luck and I hope it all works out for you:thumbsup2

Nothing in life is free!

This happened to me a few weeks ago and my DH who is the level headed part of the marriage took the call, was given a number to ring, he did that and after what seemed like forever we were told we had to come to a presentation.

She went through her spiel and then said to attend the presentation in Earls Court or somewhere else in London to which DH replied "You clearly haven't done your research because we live in Scotland".

He then asked firmly but politely whether or not we'd actually won anything to which they replied "no".

dont think you should have to pay anything if you had genuinly won :confused

Not sure I'd trust it personally - we get a computer phone us quite a lot and tell us we've won a holiday to Florida. Needless to say, we ignore it every time, especially as we never entered anything!

:confused3 Tough one, I agree with others that say your shouldn't have to pay anything.
Do you remember who you entered the competition with? Was it with a reputable website (tesco, virgin, ELC are all running Wall:e Florida holiday comps at the mo, for instance). Large companies will often have a company running the competition on their behalf but that doesn't mean you should have to pay anything.
Let your head rule your heart on this one and like everybody elses says, check them out on the web first....
Good luck - I hope it is genuine:thumbsup2

I wouldnt have thought you should pay anything if it was genuine:confused3 , well done if you have won something tho:thumbsup2
Be aware tho as there are dodgy companies who scam you:sad2:

Sounds like a scam to me hun.
I would definately google the number, and also if you do ring be wary infear of it charging you,you could ask them more of how you won this holiday etc.
I do agree though nothing in this life is FREE,and this sounds like a scam.
I hope not though

Just agreeing with everyone elses comments - be wary of it!

Fingers crossed for you that it is genuine though! :wizard:

I think it may be a scam =[ I remember seeing on 'The Real Hustle' a while ago about a scam very similar in format to this (paying a small sum for an expensive holiday) They basically cleaned out people's accounts with the details they were given  Obviously I could be wrong but I just remembered it immediately when I read your post.

you have only won a holiday if you have actually entered itand then you would not need to pay for anything at all, i posted a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about these types of phone calls.
please just don't part with any money and walk away.

prob a bit late to reply but I don't think you've won anything, there would be no need to pay a 'booking fee' if you had

I never rang, I knew I hadn't won really hope just hoped I had! It was strange though as I did enter the competition, I guess the competition was dodgy to start with!
