I booked 12 nights at Aulani for myself, DS17, DS 14 and my parents (both in their 70s). However, I really want to go to the Big Island to see the volcanos and take a helicopter tour. I think that my parents would stay at Aulani while I took my boys with me. I looked at one day trips but I think it would be too chaotic and stressful so I was thinking of flying over one day and coming back the next. I do not want to leave my parents for more than 1 night. It looks like my best option would be to fly into Hilo and rent a car. Any suggestions for where to stay? I saw a few recommendations for places in Volcano Village but I would welcome any suggestions. Also if you have any ideas for other activities or companies for the helicopter tour (Blue Hawaiian?), I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

I highly recommend Kilauea Lodge in Volcano Village. Great staff, amazing accommodations, and top notch dining at their restaurant!
