Advice needed Employer has NOT paid in SS

Sorry I did not post the whole story! He has not paid Unemployment or SS for every quarter that my DH has worked there, My dh has worked there for 3 year and he has only paid in 5 quarters that we know of, I have contacted the SS office to get a copy of their records. We found this out because he had not paid in the unemployment when we went to file, which then made me question everything else. We do have copies of checks to prove it was deducted from DH check, and we believe he has done this to the other employees also. My DH will not be going back to work for him, he is a sleeze ball! I mentioned the SS because to me that is more important than the unemployment insurance. How do people get away with stuff like this??? We would have never know if he had not been let go/ laid off!

You should have known.

Every year around your birthday you get a statement from Social Security. This is why you should OPEN it and READ it. Your DH's statement probably shows no payments... clue one!

So everyone pay attention so this doesn't happen to you!

Not neccessarily true on the soc. sec. statements...I have never received a statement from Soc. Sec. near my March birthday and I will be 34 next year and my address has been the same. My parents didn't start getting their statements until they were 40 and both were working since age 18.

I have worked since high school and have been at my current job for 10 years and have never received one statement-although it does show on my check stubs what is being taken out and soc. sec. is being taken out each week.

I never received one until I requested a copy of the statement a few years back. Since then I do get one about once a year but not necessarily around my birthday.

I do payroll sometimes and while we have to make a payment weekly that includes the SS deductions, how much of it was SS/Med/FICA isn't actually reported or processed until the end of the year. Are the 5 "payments" that were made done at the end of certain quarters?

I also will second that they will not have up to date info on his income through UI until late Winter because it is reported after the quarter is ended.
