Advice needed, Disney to Hawaii

We got off this very cruise on October 3rd and flew home on October 5th from Honolulu. We enjoyed the trip but would not repeat. We love, love, love Vancouver having been there for a previous cruise and would suggest a few days there before embarking. There are so many good restaurants, and sights. (Granville Island, Capilano Bridge, etc.)

We do better with port days so I was ready to get on an excursion when we finally got to the islands. The trip to Hawaii was very rocky the first 3 days in particular. I rarely get seasick, but I was affected pretty dramatically for those days even with Dramamine. There were quite a few onboard who were also seasick. This was our 8th cruise and the first that I have gotten seasick, but the rocking was different, kind of like water swirling around a bowl. Ugh!

We did get a little bored for those days at sea.

When we got to the islands, we used private tours for excursions and saw a lot of each island. It was beautiful and Volcano National Park is not to be missed. It is however incredibly expensive on the islands. On Oahu we did not go to Aulani, instead rented a car and toured the island ourselves, staying in Waikiki. I had tried to inquire before the cruise to see if there was Disney service to the airport or Aulani and was told there was not, however we got a notification on the cruise that passengers wanting to secure those could sign up at Guest Relations. We got to the airport to get a car by using a taxi that were readily available after exiting the terminal at the port.

As I said, we enjoyed the cruise, but enjoyed others much more. It was a long time on the water, and I would prefer Alaska, or the British Isles. However it was a great way to see a lot of the islands. (Oh, I forgot, the weather was good the whole time. Quite cool and windy on deck the first day or two, but after that just lovely. Vancouver is a bit cooler, so you need layers or jacket there.)

Feel free to ask me any questions.

@Distinkt - your opinion: was there enough daily activities (and variety) for the number of Sea Days? I did a Transatlantic that was woefully lacking in activities. A later PC did a much better job keeping guests amused. I understand about port people versus ship people, but it can be fairly clear when looking at the Navigator if the schedule was well put together.

I’m a port person but I can play (adult, non-Disney) trivia many times every day and be fairly satisfied. We had a great English guy hosting adult games on the Fantasy last year. That really helped with 4 Sea Days on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean. Especially if Buena Vista Theater and late night FunnelVision have movies I enjoy. Good sunsets viewed from Deck 4 is lovely.

The recent cruise had trivia and bingo, it also had Hawaiin themed ukelele and lei making lessons, as well as a Anyone Can Cook series with a chef from Disney World. There was also a cheese info session but I thought that one was fairly lame. The Anyone Can Cook sessions were great because the chef was so entertaining and they offered samples and wine. I had hoped that they might have someone speak on the culture, food or nature of Hawaii as they did on the Alaskan cruise we took a few years ago, but no luck.

My husband and I did not go to the movies, because we had seen most. We did however walk deck 4 and so enjoyed that. We both thought that there could be more activities planned and I think the issue is just the number of sea day all together, rather than intermixed with port days. We would not do a cruise with that number of sea days together again, and decided the Transatlantic was definitely not for us.

I will note that there was a very active Facebook group that organized meet ups for adults as well as kids, a Pub Crawl, and walk/run as well as t-shirt sales. We didn't participate because it seemed they conflicted with our other reservations for tastings or Palo, but that certainly was a plus on the sea days and a lot of people seemed to enjoy the group. However, that is unpredictable because it just depends on the energy and organizational skills of the members of the FB group and how active they wish to be.

Happy Saturday! Bumping in case anyone has any new information or experiences to share. The next Vancouver to Honolulu sailing is coming up quickly! (posted in 2 threads to maximize exposure)

PS - If anyone knows anyone that was on the 2025 February Honolulu to Vancouver sailing, I have been searching for the daily navigators.

Did you try Disney cruise line blog? He has an archive of thousands of navigations from various sailings.

I did the spc b2b hawaii in February. The hawaii cruise was great for ports but the cruise had terrible weather and was awefully boring on seadays while spc was packed with fun stuff.
Disney has a polynesian group coming onboard for any cruise that comes onboard to head to hawaii but they leave for the one departing hawaii (so depends direction whether you get it on the hawaii or on the soc) they did ukelele, hula dancing and lei making but also gave plenty of demonstrations and storytelling which was amazing while on the hawaii we were stuck with programming for a 7n

If you decide to take the Hawaii cruise, enjoy the trip and the islands. Aulani is nice, but please keep in mind, that it's Disney's version of Hawaii. If you are able to, I would suggest you explore the rest of Oahu and whenever possible, support local business with buying local!! Mahalo!!

Stay safe and bless. Live and share Aloha!!
