Advice needed about Work

in the end i did decided to hold it, until friday. Friday I went to the bank the check was issued from and was able to cash it (though i know there wasn't enough left for my coworker to cash her check). I called and left my boss a message on the business line telling her i was unable to hold the check any longer, not her cell phone (which i did have) and haven't heard from her yet. I don't know if she expects me to come in tuesday or not.
She still owes me a check, well actually 2 checks, one on March 1st and one on March 16th for the time i've worked. I hope my cashing the check doesn't cause problems getting those two checks, but i just don't see where she is going to get the money to cover them. :(

Thanks though for all the advice, I don't think i would have thought to go to the bank that issued the check unless you suggested it.

I would suggest not 'walking out', if you do this it might cause problems with you trying to get unemployment. Try to stick it out until the end of the month, I think the unemployent office might be able to offer you something for the time you worked and didn't get paid. You should check with your local employment department.

tricia.

You put in your time at work. I would not worry about what your boss will have to do with he bills. She/he should have paid on time. Also get as much proof that you can about the time you worked because you may have to take her/him to small calims court for the rest of your money. rather be safe then sorry.

I had a similar thing happen to me once. I did hang in there for a little while. The owner kept saying that we were about to get funding and would have money any day. She did eventually get the money to cash our pay checks, but she didn't get enough to make me feel confident that I would always be paid. I ended up quitting, but I was fortunate in that I didn't need the money.

If I needed the money, I would have called the department of labor. They'll help you. They can't give you money that isn't there, but they can make her lay you off so that you can at least collect unemployment until you get a new job. I thought about doing that to my boss because I was just so mad at her, but I was ready to quit working for good, and you can't collect unemployment if you aren't looking for work.
