Advice for traveling with a valuable??

OK, for those of you who have maybe given a valuable gift, such as jewlery, or even poped the question in WDW.

How do you go about traveling with the valuable, especially if you are traveling with the person you are going to be giving it to.

Safety, and secrecy I'm looking for ideas to make sure I won't lose the ring, and also hide it while traveling.

I need to do the same thing in Feb, and have come up with a solution. The MOST important thing is to hide it in your carry on luggage. Heaven forbid your ailine should lose your bags.

Put the ring box inside a plastic sandwhich bag, and hide it in your shaving kit. Even someone picks up your standard issue black fake leather shaving kit every guy gets for his 15th birthday, what are the odds of them actually opening the bag? Then hide the "ring bag" inside one of your clean socks in the dresser at the hotel until you need it. Bunch up all of your socks together in a big pile, so its not too noticable that something is in one of them. Just make sure you shower first that morning, so you can get the ring out while they're getting in the shower and you can hide it in your pocket.

Andremember . . . Don't go on RnR before popping the question so it doesn't fall out, and try to make sure the ring is always on the opposite side of your body from the intended target.

Hey there. I'm sure you already know that I'm going through the exact same situation this coming October. I do agree that you should pack the ring in question in your carry on and NOT in your suitcase.

I would also suggest you find out whether your resort has an inroom safe. If not, then ask if they have a safe deposit box. Either way, lock it up!

AGH If you are bringing an expensive ring....I would personally place it inside a zip pocket of my jacket so it was not able to walk away...

I agree with Rebecca. Since you don't have to take jewelry off to go through the screeners, I would try to keep the ring on my person. Ask your jeweler if there is a safe pouch you could put the ring in for the trip -- I don't think you'd be able to keep the box on you.

For the little jewelry I take on trips that's of value, I always wear it.

well, you could also actually sew or pin the jewelry pouch into your jacket pocket. Then it would not fall out or probably be seen before the big moment! another option, wear it on a long chain around your neck?? might be too lumpy though...

<p><font color="#800080" face="Comic Sans MS">Get the small bag from the jeweler, pin the ring in it and then pin the bag inside your pants' pocket...but do this AFTER you go through airport security. <br>
I suggest that when you get to the hotel, put it in the hotel safe. You'll feel better knowing it's secure.<br>

My dilema is my laptop. It is like my American Express card I cannot leave home without it. I am taking it with me for a couple of reasons (download pictures from the digital camera, etc.).
My concern is when I check into the hotel if my room is not available I don't know if I am comfortable with leaving it with the bell service. Taking it to the park with me probably isn't the smartest thing either. Any suggestions??
