Hi All,

Transferring an existing reservation to a renter myself for the first time and I remember reading sometimes the MDE system gets itself a bit confused about this, so wondered if anyone has any advice on the best way to do this?

I think it has to be done by telephone with Member Services, is that right?
And as well as name, address, phone, etc... I also need to get the email address on the reservation changed to the renters instead of my own?
Does this mean they will then get an email of the reservation confirmation? (I feel like I've read intermediary services guidance say this has to be forwarded on, but I couldn't understand why the renter wouldn't receive something if their email address is on the reservation)

Any advice much appreciated - thanks!

Phone call needed to change the lead name in the reservation; other quests in the room can be modified or added online. I see no reason to try and change the email and doubt you even can-- MS will communicate only with you, not any renter. You still have control of the reservation until date of arrival and you are the one that needs to communicate with DVC relating to any changes in the reservaiton before then. You send the renter any confirmation and provide the reservation number. They need to set up an MDE account (providing their own email) and can do so with the reservation number that has their names on the reservation. Once that is done, there is no need for the renter to do anything through MS, and thus through you, other than change the reservation or guests, or have you make a room location request or get any DVC dining package for them.

Thanks, so you'd advise use all of their details, with the exception of email address - keep that as mine?
But forward on the confirmation email I receive to the renter?

If I am booking a trip that I won’t be on..renter, family or friend..I do update all lead guest information to one of them and remove all my info.

For all other guests, they get the lead guest info...I don’t change that. Even though MS won’t talk to them prior to the trip, I do like the resort to already have that info for them when they check in.

If you have already linked it to your MDE, and no longer are traveling, the renters could have an issue unless you call Disney to get it removed. We had that issue once.

Thanks Sandi, so you do put their email address in?

I thought it might automatically link to your MDE if it has your email address, that was my worry... but then I also didn't want the renter to receive the confirmation number before we'd fully agreed the rental / cash exchanged etc. if I put their's in...

I do. But I still get the confirmation information. The other thing is since you control it, you can always change it once things are settled for payment,

I just don’t leave any of my stuff in when I am not traveling.

You can change the lead guest via chat on the website too if you haven’t called MS yet.

That’s useful to know, thanks!
Chat never seems to be open lately though, don’t know if it’s a COVID related thing or I just keeping hitting it unlucky...

It is hit or miss and mostly miss.
What I read and seemed correct when I needed to use it due to long wait times for phone calls is that there are a finite number of cast members working on the chat function. If all are busy, then it indicates not available. If you wait around for a few minutes, it may well change to available.

I managed to get on chat yesterday, was worth checking again!
