Besides having broken-in, comfortable shoes, are there any tips to avoid blisters, etc. while on your feet for most of the day? Is a loose-fitting running shoe better than something tight? Is running-style better than something else, such as a tennis shoe or cross-trainer?

Any anti-fungal powders useful? We don't have any foot ailments but I've heard those might help with dryness.

If we stop to see a show or are in a slow, sit-down attraction, is it 'acceptable' to take our shoes off for a bit to let them air out a little bit?

Is anything better than 100% cotton socks? We plan to have extra pairs for after being soaked on water rides. Has anyone dared to cover their shoes with plastic bags on water rides so your feet don't get soaked?
We are going in late August so the high humidity might affect drying in those cases.

Thanks

Loose-fitting shoes may slip and cause blisters. I'd say shoes that fit perfectly are better. Cotton socks are good, but you may also try some sports socks which may breathe even better than cotton. Next trip we may bring separate (light) water shoes in case of rain, etc. Our shoes/socks got soaked in a thunderstorm- the ponchos didn't help our feet.

What is better than all 3 of those choices is an immersible athletic sandal with good arch support and a heel strap, plus some Body Glide to prevent blistering.

Wearing sandals you will not get overheated feet, and you will not need to take your shoes off to let them "breathe". If you are really hot you can wade into a fountain with the kiddies and wet them down along with everything else -- and no need for any kind of plastic baggie, and no need to carry extra shoes or socks around in the parks.

Look into Keen, Teva, Merrell, Nike, Bite, etc. You'll find a brand that works for you. (If you must wear an orthotic insole, then go with Bite; they have sandals that are made to accomodate them.)

My family gave up closed shoes in summer in the parks over a decade ago, and we've never looked back. In cold weather we wear Merrell Jungle Mocs hiking shoes.

We take spray on deoderant and spray our feet everyday.

Snug shoes are better than loose ones, but they shouldn't be too tight or rub.

In the summer we also change our shoes mid-day.

Well broken in,CORRECT SIZE, fitted shoes.Any room for foot slippage leads to blisters .We bring a nice peppermint foot lotion( like gold bond foot cream) for end of day,and foot powder to dust our feet with before.

None of us has ever had a blister in good waterproof sandals (love Merrells and Keens) or in crocs (which do fit very loosely). The socks and closed in athletic shoes are the pits at Disney. You need something for the rain, water rides, etc. Never used any special ointments or potions for anyone either! If you have to wear socks, definitely not cotton. Go with smartwool or thorlo. Have a good trip.

I have given up moleskin since i started wearing crocs - i have sandals for the summer and the fred flintstone style (with socks) for cold weather. Go all day and the only thing that is not tired and sore is my feet! :cool1:
