We are cruising from the 21st to 25th w/Disney, and in the past I've gotten a one way rental back and forth for a reasonable price. I just booked our cruise this week so am starting the arduous process of finding airline/car rentals for our time in Orlando. For our family of 5, it would cost over $250 for transfers; where we are going to probably stay a day or two before and/or after, it'd be better for us to have a car. BUT the rental prices for THIS week are over $350+. Now for some this may sound reasonable, but for the past 4 years heading to Orlando during this same week, this sounds super expensive.
What rates have you found for this week?

PS And add to that cost of the car the cost of airline tix baggage fees for a family of 5. YIKES! :scared1:

We used Art's Shuttle to take us to the cruiseport and I think it was about $100 for family of 5 a couple years ago. what if you hired a shuttle for one leg of your trip and then shortened the amount of time you need the rental?

What are the exact dates you would require a rental for?

We're coming Sat the 21st through to the 27th - I presume it's a popular week - although not as busy as Spring Break.

Looks like Thrifty may have lowest rate right now. Using Corporate Code 1660221168 the total is $286.37 for a full size or $412.13 for minivan and includes free additional driver. Code is from property management company of building I work in so no ID required. Thrifty is located at terminal in Orlando.

Don't forget to include port parking charges in that rental car price. They are $15 a day if you will be parking the rental car at Port Canaveral.

Looks like Budget has a better rate for minivan from Feb 21 - 27th using BCD x474200 and coupon code MUGZ009 for $30.00 off. The total with taxes will be $264.80 once coupon is applied at checkout. The BCD code found on Flyertalk comes from travelocity based on others reporting use.

Okay, I tried those codes, and I got a minivan for $933. I could practically BUY a car for that! What am I doing wrong? Is it because that's for the whole week? Car rentals just seem so pricey...

2/20 through 2/27. It's the week after the typical Feb. vacation, it may be still popular, though. I was checking the Feb. 2010 thread, it seemed like people were getting some good deals.

I freely admit to being a novice at car rentals--we did it for the first time last year, through, AAA, and it was expensive.

Looks like Budget is the best rate right now if you use BCD Number x474200 and coupon code MUGZ029 for $30.00 off. The total with taxes after discount is applied upon checkout will be $267.86. Flyertalk forum indicates code is from travelocity.

I tried that--it gave me a rate of $933. Yikes! I don't know if it would have dropped when I actually put through the credit card and all, but I didn't want to risk it.

When I typed it in, the coupon code box turned red, but the BCD number didn't. Does that mean anything? $267 sounds like a very reasonable price to me, I'd be happy to prepay that.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much! That worked like a charm! I feel so much better--the car rental shouldn't rival the house rental, IMHO. KWIM?
