Hello,

Other than the 11 month window at two different properties and perhaps more difficulty unloading a 600 point membership, is there a reason to buy 300 points each at two different properties instead of a single purchase of 600?

I know I will have to pay two seperate closing costs. Anything else?

Also, is it frowned upon to solicit sellers and try to arrange a purchase within these boards.

Thanks!!!

I would go with 2 300 Pt contracts, like you said easier to get rid of but if you have two kids, you don't have to buy another 600 pt contract to make the kids happy. One thing you could do with two contracts is buy 300 at SSR and then buy 300 on the resale market.

Good luck on what you do and I wish I could get the DW to let me get up to 600 pts.

The only other reason I can think of for buying two separate contracts is for "inheritance purposes". Some people like to buy separate contracts so that they can leave separate contracts to each of their children. This is only a reason to buy smaller contracts, though, not one to buy at two different home resorts.

Keeping track of two different home resorts is more "work" than if you had all your points at one resort and for one use year. This could be a problem if you are not one to keep track of details. You will need to track points from both contracts separately/carefully to avoid losing points.

If you do go with the two home resort option, it will be easier to track if both contracts have the same use year. Keep in mind that it might take longer to find two contracts that meet your requirements if you go via resale.

Also, is it frowned upon to solicit sellers and try to arrange a purchase within these boards.
Yes. Such posts are not allowed and will probably be removed by the moderator. Recommend you find a broker(s) and work through them to find your contract(s). Sellers generally pay the commission, but that is subject to negotiation.

Thanks!!!

You're welcome.

Personally, I feel the two reasons that you have stated are very BIG reasons. Even if you want 600 points at one resort, I would recommend splitting that into two, or even three contracts. I can not think of any good reason to have one 600 point job, versus two 300 pointers (assuming same use year).

Good luck...

I would buy seperate contracts. They are easier to sell if you ever have to sell for some reason.

Another reason might be the ability to sell if necessary. 600 points seems like a lot to move on the resale market. If split into separate 300-pt contracts, both will probably sell much quicker, or OP could sell one and keep the other if travel habits change.

I think two 300 point cntrats is the way to go... even if they are at the same resort.

We own at 3 resorts, because we want the 11 month booking window for both BCV and BWV... (We own at OKW just because we love it! LOL) We plan on useing BCV for spring break/summer trips, BWV for Food and Wine/ Christmas and OKW for the 2 other trips... banking and borrowing as needed.

As more and more members join the ranks, the 11 month window will become more and more important, esp if you want "peak" weeks.

How often do you plan on heading to WDW? What size accmidations? What times of the year?

Having two home resorts can work nicely, but the ease on only having one, could out weight the 11 month window desire.

Buy where you want to stay most, and break down the points into resaleble sizes.

We have this exact scenario with 300 at OKW and 300 at VB. We did this for a couple of reasons.....

1. Wanted 11 month window at WDW and ocean front.
2. Have 2 kids that would get 300 pts each.
3. Both have same use yr (Sept)... easy for banking-borrowing,etc
4. In case of emergency, death, etc could sell just 1 if needed.

Even if you want all your points at 1 resort........buy two 300 pt contracts or "3" 200 pt contracts.::yes::

P.S.Our VB contracts are 3 "100 pt" contracts.

I would purchase 2- 150 points contracts and 6- 50 point contracts
This gives you much flexibility, to sell later on.
I have found great demand, for my 50 point contracts, over the years

I wish I would have split up my 250 point contract into 150 and 100 for the simple reason if my needs change in the future, I could sell one off and keep one.

When you buy through DVC, there are no closing costs.

We have 400 points with 3 contracts.
150 pts WLV
100 pts WLV
150 pts BCV

All same use year. I'm glad we did it this way because I know that if I get into financial trouble I can sell one of the contracts off.

It really is something to consider. Mine are all the same use year and I find t very easy to use the points between banking and borrowing.

Hello: I bought 2 - 150 point contracts at BCV for just the reasons already stated. One is Feb. and the other is Mar.

We also have 3 contracts, all with the same use year.

200 BWV
100 BCV
100 BWV

If one were going to buy at SSR and all from DVC, I'd buy three 200 or four 150 contracts. I actually think these sell as well or better than 50 points contracts. Of course one could buy from DVC and add on at other resorts resale or better yet buy resale then add on through DVC.

If one is going strictly resale, it may be difficult to get that exact configuration. Then it would depend on what home resort or resorts I wanted and what the price was. Getting all the same use year would be nice but I wouldn't let that drive my decisions totally. And if one could get the 600 or so points in one contract cheap enough, I wouldn't hesitate to go that route. I'd say one should be able to get a 500 or better point contract about $4 pp cheaper than a 250 or less not to mention the reduced closing costs. And it doesn't hurt to offer even less as those get far less action and IMO, DVC is less likely to buy them back. And if worse comes to worse and DVC buys it back, all you've lost is the emotional investment and a couple of months.

Personally if I were starting from scratch, my ideal combo would be something like 200-270 OKW, 150-200 BWV and 75-100 VB points. The bulk in OKW as they're cheaper to buy and cheaper to own plsu the 27 GV which are less points. BWV points for the BWV priority and VB for high season and a Beach Cottage. Some would like HH, and I could see that if they wanted mid June to late August. Some would want BCV instead of BWV or VWL in addition or instead and I could understand all those options. From my perspective, the only thing SSR holds is the new expiration date, the availability of GV, near DD and the fact DVC's selling it directly. Frankly, none of these would give me a moment's interest but I know some others feel differently.

My vote would be for 3-200pts. or 4-150pts. We have 7 contracts with no single contract larger than 200pts and a few are 50 or less. We really wanted our contracts of different sizes in case we wanted to sell off some points later.

good luck
