Advice -Bike vs. razor scooter for DD6?

My DD6 has never been a fan of her bike. She's had it a while, has now outgrown it, and maybe has ridden it 5 times. One bad fall did her in. We just moved into a neighborhood with loads of kids who are always out riding and she jumped on her bike yesterday and admittedly, is doing MUCH better. But, then the 2 girls across the street were out on their scooters and she was watching, so that got me thinking. Wonder which she'd like more, a new (bigger so she fits) bike or one of those scooters? Thinking Santa here?

Anyone have experience with both, opinions either way?

Thanks.

Sorry to post this but my DD (6 tomorrow) rides both.

She has 2 friends the same age, one across the street, one next door. The one next door has no scooter and still has training wheels, so if they play together its usually the bike. The little girl across the street has a 2 wheel bike , like DD and a scooter. If DD plays with her, truthfully, its half bike, half scooter. When they all play together, usually bike.

I know I am no help. But at that age they bore quickly and switch off often.

Dd6 and ds6 have had bikes and scooters for years, and like they equally. One minute they're on their bikes, the next their scooters (well, not actually theirs - they're the youngest of 5, so we have many razor scooters, which they've been flying down our street on - a hill - for several years). I don't think they cost much.

My ds 5 was devoted to his scooter until recently when he learned to ride 2 wheels, now he wants to ride his bike all the time. All our kids have both, and the kids in our neighborhood have both and sometimes they are all on their bikes, or sometimes they are on their scooters.
If it were me, I would get a scooter for Christmas since its not a *need* and save the new bike for later, or now if she is showing an interest in riding it. Of course I'm in the Northeast so its easy to not give a bike until the spring but since you are in VA that may not work.
Also, my 8 year old needs a new bike and I was thinking I could give him it for Christmas, but then I thought it is something he needs to test out to make sure he's comfortable on it and likes it so we are getting it soon.

When DS was 3 he begged Santa for a green bike for Christmas. Santa came through, but that bike just sat there. He tried it a few times, but for some reason never got the hang of it.

At 4, Santa decided to bring DS a razor scooter, which he loved and still does.

DS started showing more of an interest in his bike recently, so for his 6th birthday he got a new bigger bike that he can actually ride.

He uses both still. The scooters are so cheap, you may be able to do both!

I also agree...if you can swing both...at athat age, my DD LOVED her scooter. She also LOVED her bike. Kind of depended on what was going on iwth friends.

DD often "scooted" with DH and I if we were taking a walk. If was fun...

DD still wants a set of wheels for X-mas...she is turning 16 in the spring. :lmao:
