Highly considering getting a Disney Visa Card. I have heard the perks are not tremendous but I like the idea of having the card because I am going to Disney hilton head resort over the summer and then a WDW trip
Next year. I buy Disney merchandise. I want to be more involved in Disney

What are some real world, common perks I can use the card for in these situations?

Thanks!!!

I have the premium card and I love it. I currently have $600 in rewards and I'm not going until November! I use my card for everything and just pay it off monthly so I never pay any interest. I know there are some other cards with better percentages back, but I like this card a lot and I like that all of my rewards are in the form of a Disney GC, which is what I like to put my extra "found money' to anyway. You also get 10% off merchandise and there are a couple of meet and greets in WDW (Star Wars at DHS and one at EPCOT), and there's also a lounge at EPCOT, though I've never been to it. You also get 6 month free financing on Disney trips if you needed it.

Sometimes they offer specials when you sign up..I've heard of people getting $200 gift cards, so I would wait until they are offering something.

I signed up while they were running a $200 statement credit for new customers :thumbsup2 You get 2% back in rewards $ at grocery stores, gas stations, and Disney travel. 1% every where else. You also get interest free time to pay off your Disney travel that you paid for on your card (maybe 6 months?). There are cardmember only character meets in Epcot and DHS, 10% of certain Disney restaurants and 10% off merchandise (the merchandise must be a minimum purchase of $50), early access to Disney room/ticket specials, and you can also redeem rewards dollars for airline travel credit on your statement.

The lounge at EPCOT is ONLY during Food & Wine. The private meets are at EPCOT and DHS, not MK. You only get the 10% off CERTAIN restaurants and the minimum purchase for discount merchandise is the $50.

I do like having earlier access to some of their resort discounts. Last year, the Free Dining even had dates that weren't included for the general public. You also save on many of the tours at WDW, which we've taken advantage of a couple times. The 6-month free financing is nice too.

We got one before our last trip just to get the $200 gift card for spending a certain amount, and a $50 for adding a second card. Those gift cards, coupled with the rewards we got, really helped pay for some expenses during our last trip.

My wife and I each have the Premier version of the card. We use them all the time and then use the earned "Mickey Dollars", usually, for food when we visit WDW. We're also DVC members so we do visit regularly and it works great for us. The discounts are a bonus. There is a fee for the premier card which is offset by the offered sign up bonus, at least for the first year or so. For us the fee is more than offset by the points we earn. If the fee bothers you there is the non-premier card that gains many of the benefits but doesn't earn as many points. It also doesn't allow you to use points for travel expenses as the premier card does (flights, hotels, etc).

If you think you can earn enough points and take advantage of the benefits offered I'd recommend the Disney cards. However, as has been mentioned, there are other cards that are not Disney focused that you could also utilize, Chase Sapphire, for example, is usually considered pretty good for travel. As Disney fans we found the Disney cards attractive and they have been beneficial for us.

I have a rewards card with better cash back so I barely use my Disney visa. I have the basic and got a $50 sign up bonus. Some resturants will give you a 10% discount. Disney Visa will send you a list of the ones that give it when they send your card. We got 10% off our purchase at the launch bay in HS for using the card and this saved me $10. There is also a meet and greet in HS and Epcot for card members. We did it at HS and there was no wait to see kylo ren.

I was wondering what characters have been seen at Hollywood Studios and Epcot using the Visa card character meet opportunity?

The last time we went (last fall) we saw Kylo Ren at HS and Donald and Daisy Duck at Epcot. we have seen Mickey and Minnie on previous trips.

We recently got the card with these offers. I wasn't sure whether we could get both or either. Good to know you got both. Do they automatically send the GC or do you have to request them once you've met the requirements?

You have to spend and pay off a certain amount before those bonus points become available.

once you have accumulated some bonus points, you have to specifically go in an request a redemption card. You have to pre-load it with a minimum of $10 but now that they no longer expire, there is no harm in transferring all of your points.

They will mail you a card which will act like a pre-loaded gift card. You can transfer your points over to the redemption card whenever you like but remember that they do not move automatically.

we have been debating moving from the basic to premier. Is it really worth it?

When we moved, they were offering something like $50 points if you switched and the annual fee wouldn't be due until the end of the year. So, we upgraded figuring that it would be a wash for two years and we would go back to the other card. We never switched back because we rack up way more Disney Dollars that the annual fee costs. It depends on how much you use your card.

Spend $1250 a year (and pay it off before interest) and you break even on your annual fee. Everything after that is spending money.

Instead of moving from the basic to premier, I opened up a new premier card to take advantage of the $200 statement credit. Now having the premier, I am surprised how many points I earned by just using it at the grocery stores and restaurants.

The only way rewards help, with any card, is to make certain you pay in full each month. We put over $102000 on our premier card last year and yanked in tons of rewards points (about 1700). The annual fee ($49?) does go against the flow of it but we were able to pay our DVC dues with rewards and have it feel like all our meals and extras were free when we go to disney. An additional benny now is the ability to use rewards for airline travel but I havent tried that yet...For what it is worth, SW air just released there 50k miles promo on their credit card. It does have a $69 annual fee, but I got one anyway, my wife got one then cancelled it and we were able to book 3 r/t tix MHT to MCO.

In short, if you can stay current with payments, have good credit, you can do very well playing the credit card rewards game. Good Luck.

I've had the basis card for years and have always racked up a decent amount of rewards dollars before each trip but am not sure that I will continue to use it after my upcoming trip. My other credit cards give better travel rewards, where the couple of free flights we get outweigh the Disney dollars we redeem. It really depends on how much you will use it and what other options you have.

I love mine! I charge everything and pay it off. I always volunteer to put things on my card for things like school functions etc (I'm reimbursed). We went 2 years ago and are going this summer. I currently have about 1100 points which I will put towards the final payment of the trip. Then if I earn anything else in between I will put that on the gift card and use it as spending money. As far as perks I like the free picture offer. They also send you free private events at the Disney Store around Halloween and sometimes movie releases (if you have young kids).

Some of my family have the Disney card, they like it becuse they plan on Disney Vacations whenever they can. For my family I weighed the pros and cons and becuase we like to travel to more than just Disney I opted for the Chase Sapphire card which has more perks than I can even try to remember and a really decent annual rate compared to others. When choosing reward cards you need to think about what you want to redeem, If you choose a Dsiney card and are happy about only using or going to Disney with those reward points then its a great card. But, if you go to multiple places another may be better like the sapphire card becuase you choose what rewards you want i. hotel, airfare, rental cars and much much more.

I've got the Premier version but I'm going to downgrade it before the next payment comes due because I don't use it much compared to my other cards. The rewards are decent but I have other cards with better points payouts. The regular Disney Visa will get you the in-parks benefits (discounts, character meets, etc.), which was the main reason I wanted one. I just got the Premier because I caught an offer where you could get a $200 statement credit after meeting a minimum spend and it was an easy way to make a $151 profit on opening a new card. Going forward the $49 annual fee won't be worth it for me because I'd have to put a large majority of my overall spending on the card in order to make a profit on it, and like I said, I've got other cards that give better payouts.

Tl;dr: I found the Premier to be worth it for one year due to the signup bonus, but not worth it in the long run.
