DH and I need to lose about 10 pounds apiece. We just eat average foods, lots of home cooking type things-and we eat pretty lightly. I try to make things from scratch when I can. We hardly ever eat fast food. We don't overeat but the weight does not seem to be coming off. I usually stay around 1400 calories per day. We are around 40 years old and both exercise for about 1 hour per day.

What eating plans do you do that help you? Do those supplement things really work? We tried low carb diets several years ago and that worked great for him, but I gained weight on that plan. He wants to go back to that, but I do not.

I'm very frustrated right now. I've been surfing the web and there are so many diet plans out there that I am almost dizzy from reading about all of them. Do any of them actually work?

I'd recommend Weight Watchers. I wanted to lose about 10-15 lbs earlier this year. Like you I eat pretty sensibly and exercise regularly. It worked for me and was very easy to follow. I did it online because I didn't see a need to attend meetings. You might want to also kick up your exercise routine a notch.

well, I just started a diet July 29 and have lost 23 pounds so far. No special diet, I just totally went off carbs. The only carbs I eat is one piece of fruit a day and the little bit that is in teriyaki sauce or my veggies. I do a lot of stir fry without the rice and got recipes off of WW that had no carbs like chicken/eggplant casserole (like lasagna but eggplant is the noodles and no fat mozzerella). I also eat a lot of salads - if I don't do them at home, I get them from Subway. I haven't had a carb in ages and honestly, I don't miss it. The fruit helps for sweets and I'll also make no sugar no fat jello which also has no carbs. good luck!

I second Weight Watchers. Lets just say I have a sizeable amount of weight to lose and I've lost 43 pounds since the beginning of June on WW.

The plan is so easy to follow. My biggest mistake was that I wasn't eating enough and was eating all the wrong things. I used to just eat lunch and dinner, BIG BIG HUGE NO NO! You should eat small amounts of things at 8 - 10 - 12 - 3 - and 6, then if you want something later only fruit.

The other awesome thing about WW and the points is that if you want something fattening like a slice of pizza or a piece of cake you can have it, you just have to work it into your daily or weekly points. It's really an awesome program.

i/we used jorge cruises' diet plan and that worked we both lost 15-20 lbs and we are still using it you just drop you caloric intake for a week and then watch what you eat you can get his book at barnes and nobles or even do a google on him, he was oprahs trainer at one time

another satsifed WW member here. I've lost 30 pounds since May and I feel good.

what I like about WW is that it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. if you adopt the good eating habits they teach you can lose the wieght and keep it off. I'm not overly fond of a weight loss plan that asks you to give up an entire food group.

I do very well on Atkins. I like it and don't miss the carbs. I also modify Atkins to include low glycemic index fruit, limited carb wraps, etc.

Another vote for WW. Because you already eat healthy and cook, it will help you with portion control a little bit.

The reduction in calories has to be accompanied by an increase in exercise for there to be much weight loss. The way it was explained to me, as you cut back on calories, your body's natural defense is to decrease metabolism to hold on to that fat.
More importantly, check out the WISH board here and the WISH journals board. On the WISH board, there's alot of great people who are all either trying to lose or maintain weight loss, and mostly to eat healthier. By reading some of the journals, I know I got really inspired with some of the stories. I'm trying to lose weight now, and it really helps to have the support of a group, and what better group than the DIS!
