When I see or hear them, not only do I not believe it, but I find it an insult to my intelligence that someone would even try that tactic. I'll start:

"The boss is out of town, so we've slashed prices"

"It's our Xth anniversary, so everything is on sale"

"We must sell XX cars this weekend, so the deals are great!"

Why can't anybody just have a sale? Aren't lower prices enough of an incentive without making up some stupid scenario?

I guess it's a marketing ploy that works? I don't know why they do this either.

The scenario makes you think that you are getting an even better deal (until you look at the numbers) than you would with "normal" sale.

My very "favorite" one is - "If you call in the next 10 minutes, you'll get 2 for 19.99". Like if I call in 11 minutes, they won't offer the deal - who are they fooling?

And they put that clock on the bottom of the screen that counts down...

Such a sense of urgency it creates!

"Lost our lease - everything must go" but the store's still there six months later.

okay, they close that storefront and open one two blocks away. In the meantime they try to sucker people into paying their "closeout" prices.......

I remember in NY they'd put a sign that said "GOING OUT for BUSINESS".... "for" instead of "of"... people fell for it and RAN to buy from them!!

Ron, I think we've been in the business too long.... :p

Maybe I should be less annoyed with the advertisers and more annoyed with the people who fall for the gimmicks:confused:

This is a little different, but I hate the drug commercials that say something like, "I don't care what the studies said; I tried it, and it works." It's really depressing because I know that people actually respond to this.

So... they're trying to say I should listen to ONE ACTOR who says that a drug works, rather than listen to the scientific results of THOUSANDS of people who have taken the drug? This ad is clearly geared towards idiots.
