Adventures of the "Moms" Panel

I am guessing this year's entry may be a bit more humourous than the one you shared with us last year that got you on the Panel.

What some people will do just to keep themselves in the Mickey Moms Club- LOL!:rotfl:

Come on Bret - if it's humourous why don't you share it...I am sure there are some folks looking for some distractions right about now!;)

Can't exactly recall (not even sure what the exact questions were), but something like:

Tell us about your family:
They are fine, thanks for asking.

Tell us why you are qualified to be on the Panel:
I'm not, I just wanted to send this note to say "Hi" and give you a break from the other 9,999 applications.

Tell us you best tip for planning:
Use the Moms Panel, of course!

I do wonder if they actually read it?!:confused3

Now that was clever....What a way to end my evening...with a smile on my face and a laugh out loud...

Good Luck to those waiting:hourglass Maybe tomorrow. My fingers crossed for y'all.

PS I am a newbie to the MMC and I got logged in just fine...I used my regular and only Disney login/password...Fingers crossed for the rest of you to be able to get on soon, too.:)

I am crawling out from my safe "lurkerdom". :flower3:

My name is Missy, I live just outside Baltimore, MD and I am also waiting to hear if I made it to Round 3. I am so afraid that I will jinx myself by "publicly" announcing that I am waiting to hear, that I have stayed hidden away until now. I just had to tell someone!:yay:

I have been wearing my Tinkerbell shirts daily since last Wednesday in hopes that a little pixie dust will fly my way. My 10yrdd has picked up on it, and is now also wearing her Tinkerbell earrings hoping that a little pixie dust will fly her way so that she will picked to be homecoming princess this weekend.

I have been flipping between refreshing this thread and my email nonstop since yesterday morning. I hope that we hear something soon. Good luck everyone!

Missy

Hi Missy! And :welcome:

Glad you decided to come on out and join the rest of us!

I am officially "coming out" of lurkdom, yes it's been over 2 1/2 years of surfing around the DIS boards. But I found that I kept coming back. And now I have been following this thread from the beginning, and thought I need to jump in. I was a round 2 reject last year for the Mom's panel and this year I thought I really nailed my answers. I thought I have to at least make it to round 2. But, I did not hear anything, even still. However, here's a possible problem, my email on the 7th hit 1000 emails (I'm from a big family) and I wonder if maybe, just maybe, I could have moved on but the email would have bounced back to the sender, stating that the email box you are trying to send to is full. What do you think? If your mailbox is full, do you think they would resend it later that day or the next day? I know that I am out of luck for this year though. :sad2:

I, too, received my official "rejection" e-mail today. So…. I’m now clearly, undeniably and irrefutably not a candidate for the 2009 Disney World Moms Panel. (It wasn’t simply a terrible technical oversight on Disney's part… ;) HA!)

Anyway, I thought you might appreciate another little diversion as we await further news about our semi-finalists.

‘Sorry, Heather (and those waiting patiently to hear if you’ve advanced)! ;) This probably isn’t quite the news you were hoping would fill your in-box, but it should still provide a fun read for some. ::yes::

Oh, and sorry, folks, for the lag in posting these links! (Things have been ‘kinda busy around the DISgeeks’ house!) :)

I am originally from Rices Landing (which is so small you may never have heard of it! In Greene County, about 30 minutes from Washington. I went to Jefferson-Morgan for most of my 'career', but moved before graduation) If there is anyplace in Washington for you to find it, I believe there will be an article about the panel in the Greene County Messenger coming out...tomorrow? :confused3

Heather - great article!! :yay:

Here's that article of which Heather R. (BellaBuggy) spoke:

Greene County Messenger: "Greene County native enjoys dream job at Disney World"

Greene County native enjoys dream job at Disney World

If you are planning a trip to Disney World in the near future and have questions - such as, what are the best rides for a five-year-old, what is new at the different parks, where are the best places to stay or what should a family pack - there is a former Greene County native who has the answers.

Heather Roberts-Nault grew up in the Rices Landing area. She moved to Kentucky in 1994 at the start of her high school senior year due to a job transfer for her father. Her parents, Dennis and Barbara Roberts, are graduates of Waynesburg and Jefferson-Morgan high schools, respectively.
Heather's connection to Disney started a year ago when she responded to a contest for a new panel that would be comprised of mothers. The Disney Mom's Panel selection began with 10,000 applicants who submitted answers to three essay-type questions about the park.
Heather's entry made the cut from those 10,000 down to 126.
"When they called to tell me that I had made it that far I was stunned," she said. "The next part was another set of essay questions and a phone interview. Three people from Disney read all 10,000 of the applications. After three more essay questions and the phone interview, they cut it down to 24 people."
According to Heather, the wait to find out if she had made the panel was a nerve-wracking one. She said she knew what day they would be calling and she and her three daughters Annie, 5, Catie, 3 and Lilly, 1, waited anxiously by the phone.
"I was shushing them when the call came but I must have squealed a little when they told me on the phone. The kids went crazy in the background," she said. "My husband, Chris, wasn't around to help me corral them at the time."
From the moment that Heather found out that she was a member of the Disney Mom's Panel, her life has become a whirlwind of treasures.
"Our responsibility is to answer questions that are submitted to the [Disney] Web site that can be part of the general pool or asked to us specifically if they think we fit the question," she said. "Maybe someone has a question that pertains to little kids and since I have young children I might know the answer."
Heather said that there are a certain number of questions that panelists must answer each week but that the panel members have surpassed their yearly requirement already.
Although the contest to become a panel member was merit-based, Heather said it is hard to not feel like she won the lottery.
"I know there are others who have a far greater knowledge of the park than I do," she said.
She laughed when asked if she had a writing background, but admitted that she had written for a couple of newspapers over the years. She is currently very happy and content being a stay-at-home mom. It was in college at the University of Kentucky that she met Chris while pursuing her undergraduate degree in English.
"Being a mom was really what I always wanted to do with my life," she said.
Her fellow panelists hail from as far away as Canada and the group have done such a tremendous job as the inaugural panel that Disney has decided to rotate them in and out over the next year as trainers for the second panel of moms.
What are the perks of being on the Moms Panel? Heather said that it is typical of the Disney way.
"They think of everything. We have just been showered with gifts and trips to the park," she said. "We got gifts for Mother's Day and for no reason at all. When we went for training last year there were huge gift baskets in our rooms. It is just amazing."
Which park is Heather's favorite?
"Animal Kingdom is my favorite park for sure. So often when you read message boards people say it is just like a zoo but it is not a zoo, it's so much more," she said. "When we were there the last time we hopped off of the safari and everyone was heading toward the exit. We decided to go to the right and 30 feet from us there was a waterfall and gorillas were right there. It was awesome."
What is her favorite ride?
"Well for my daughters it is 'It's a Small World' but I love the Toy Story Mania Ride in Hollywood Studios-MGM," she said.
When is the best time to go to Disney?
"Anytime that school is in session is the best time to go. That is when the lines are the shortest," she said. "Christmas week is the busiest time, followed by Thanksgiving and Easter."
If you are planning a trip to Disney, you will want to check out the mom's panel at www.disneyworldmoms .com and get some tips from a hometown girl and her new-found friends.
"When I come home [Rices Landing] to visit I always keep an eye out to see if I recognize anyone," she said. "I thought I saw someone when I was driving last time. I spent a lot of years there and I often wonder how certain people are doing."

Congratulations, Heather, on the nice news story.

I found this little tidbit particularly interesting:

"Her fellow panelists hail from as far away as Canada and the group have done such a tremendous job as the inaugural panel that Disney has decided to rotate them in and out over the next year as trainers for the second panel of moms."**

:cheer2: Go! Go! Pioneer "Moms" Panelists! 'Sounds like your work is not yet done! :cheer2:

**(Disclaimer: Okay, so maybe the journalist's grammar isn't perfect, but -- in this case -- it's truly the sentiment that counts! ::yes:: This year's Panelists aren't simply going to disappear! :thumbsup2)

Great story Heather

thanks for sharing it with us and how great that you all get to pass on your vast knowledge to the new panel members

here's hoping I get to meet you all soon

Hi Everyone! I'm back from WDW and ready to join on the "refresh marathon" ! I kept my eye out for Laura and Leanne while I was there, but I didn't bump into them! :rotfl:

Disney was a great diversion from waiting to hear about round 3 ! :rotfl2: BUT, I have to admit, I was one of "those" people, sneaking peeks at my email whenever I found a down moment.

Congrats to all the new folks who have joined our thread in the last week! Welcome!

Hopefully we'll hear something soon, I know how hard this is on everyone!

Oh! How fun!

Thank you Leanne (and Laura) for sharing that magical moment with us. (And, thank you for pointing it out to us, Kathie/magic2go.)

WOW! A cast-member pin and a (not-so-hidden) Mickey office number on her door? That's enough to make a true Disneyphile giddy! :cloud9: I love it! :teeth:

:woohoo: Again,CONGRATULATIONS, Laura! :woohoo:

Well they either learned something that I didn't, or they overstepped on that one! LOL I talked to her about going to Disney in December to help train the Moms Panel and she asked if we all were going. I explained that no, we'd rotated on special events throughout the year (meaning last year).

I loved the video! It was so fun to see the start of her very first day! Laura's happiness is infectious!
