Adventure Club to reopen in MK?

Just reporting what I had heard. It has no place in FL any more.

Never heard that but that would not work at all.

Also there is a reason PH was dropped they realized it was a direct to DVD franchise and an overall failure.

Oh it's going to happen weather it's AC or called the Explorers club MK severly lacks places to eat. With in the next two years something will be there.

Where did the idea arise that MK is lacking in places to dine?

Tortuga Tavern just recently opened after that space had been mostly dormant for years.

Both Be Our Guest and Gaston's Tavern will be added to the mix in just over a year.

That's pretty substantial dining capacity growth right there....for a park which hasn't seen its attendance change dramatically in recent years.

Plus you've got Tomorrowland Terrace which is readily available for use, yet remains pegged with the "seasonal" tag which seems to translate into about 6 weeks of use per year.

I don't have anything to dispute this report other than it being a pretty dramatic shift in philosophy for WDW dining. It costs a lot of money to operate additional dining facilities. Adding 4 new facilities in a 18-24 month period is a surprising increase for a 40 year old park that isn't seeing similar increases in crowds.

About 20-25 separate trips over the last decade.

While we don't visit during Christmas or Easter, longest I've ever waited to place an order at a QS restaurant is probably 10 minutes. Most times far less than that. That seems on par with the experience that Disney execs seem content to provide.

I can't seem them investing in additional locations so that they can offer walk-up service pretty much year-round.

Regardless my point is why put money into opening a new location when operating calendars could easily be expanded for those two venues?

But they WILL be open sooner rather than later.

If this source claims to have rock solid information, so be it. Either it happens or it doesn't. But on the surface it just seems like a curious investment for WDW.

Whether WDW needs more restaurants or not is certainly open to debate. But adding 3 new locations in about a year (BoG, GT and this proposed restaurant) seems like overkill. Leaving two other existing venues at "seasonal" status--rather than expanding their use--is even more curious.

The fact that there are "table police" and coupons to encourage people to eat in off-hours during the busy season is kind of a tip-off.

BTW, on another board the original source compared this to the former "Explorers Club" in DLP--which was actually table service. My initial impression was that this would be quick-serve (the source commented on the lack of QSRs), now I'm not sure.

I'm wondering the same. I used to think there was a lack of dining at MK until I became more familiar with it. Now, I do think it could use another table service (and we're getting that with BOG, but only for dinner), and perhaps they could improve the desirability of Tonys (it seems to be rated lower than the rest).

And I wonder if there isn't some fundamental flaw with the Tomorrowland Terrace location that they don't keep it open.

Exactly! So why the supposed change of heart now?

The fact that there are "table police" and coupons to encourage people to eat in off-hours during the busy season is kind of a tip-off.

The coupons actually make a lot of sense, IMO. When you're staffing a restaurant for 8-9 hours per day and only about 4 hours are considered peak dining periods, you can justify a lower profit margin by moving some business into the slower times.

And if guests are willing to eat a little earlier or later to save 25%, so much the better for those guests (and their vacation budgets.)

Again, I'm not disputing this rumor but it just doesn't jive with the recent philosophy toward dining at WDW.

That seems to be the cynic's blanket response to everything that Disney does...which is exactly my point. Cheaper alternatives include:

1. Greater use of Tomorrowland Terrace and/or Tortuga Tavern (the latter of which already appears to be happening.)
2. No new restaurants at all.

Opening three new restaurants over the next couple of years suggests that either Disney ISN'T taking the cheapest way out...or this new restaurant will never materialize.

Time will tell...

Maybe they finally realized it's a problem. Also if AC is TS it will make money I bet most of their TS restaurants make a lot of money look at the prices.

While I would probably welcome the AC returning, the lack of alcohol and the inherent problems in opening such a show as a quick service restaurant, where guests go primarily so they can put down a few chicken nuggets and get back to the rides, makes me not like this particular idea so much. Besides, there's no lack of CS dining at the MK. Where'd that come from? It's TS they're lacking. And if they open a restaurant it is likely there will be no actors and no show - possibly elements of the decor and some electronic-type things on the wall like the new place at Disneyland.

Just re-iterating...the original source on this (the Spirit) has never specifically said CS or TS. He initially implied CS, but later compared it to an extinct TS restaurant (apparently with "character waiters") in DLP.

Also, don't lose sight of the fact a highly themed space like this could easily be used for private events. Banquets are down 25% since PI closed, and the AdvClub was the most requested venue. This might give the Verandah an after-hours life the Village Haus or Tommorrowland Terrace never will have.

Does anyone know more about the DLP restaurant - I think it was where the plaza gardens restaurant is now. Was it in the days when DLP was also dry?

i was wrong, it wasnt plaza gardens, it was Colonel Hathi’s Pizza Outpost

it was called "Explorers Club" and was TS not CS.
