Advent candles in the resort room

I ordered a birthday cake for my husband a few years ago when we stayed at CSR. Disney delievered it to our room with plates, napkins, forks and candles!

Probably because you blow the candles out on a birthday cake once you light them. You usually don't on an advent wreath.

You're right! The Advent candles stay lit while the prayers and readings are being said. I'd go for the battery operated lights.

I wonder how many years ago the candles were brought to the room too. Was it before the resorts went all non smoking? Because I can easily see someone being charged for smoking in their room, if they are lighting candles every day or so.

Me, though, I'd still prefer to have a set of real electric advent candles, then to be making do with birthday candles that probably wouldn't last through the prayers anyway (speak fast!). Depending on where you're staying, you could even leave the electric candles lit overnight in the window of your hotel room to symbolically guide wanderers lost in the storm to your door. Not safe or a good idea. It only takes a small slip up to cause a fire. Don't put your or others lives at risk just for a tradition.

Birthday candles are different in that they're only lit for a few minutes and stay on top of the cake.

OP said a few posts back that it's their intention to light the advent candles, say a prayer, and then blow them out. I don't think they intend to leave them lit all day. While I don't condone it, there are also people who bring toasters into standard hotel rooms and run the risk of burning things (setting off smoke detectors), blowing circuits, smelling up the room, etc etc. So there's that too.

I agree, I do not condone any of it. But outside of my opinion, there is the very real worry that the OP may end up charged for having smoked in the room.

Battery operated candles are a great suggestion. I'm not sure why anyone would risk having to pay a substantial cleaning fee when there is another alternative.

This is easy.....lit candles are not supposed to be in the rooms. Small candles on a birthday cake is a different thing.... Probably because if the candles burnt down, they would go out when they hit the cake......hopefully. Sooooo.....maybe you could put the advent candles on the cake! Not poking fun...I have an advent wreath every year. Just trying to lighten the mood here.

Here's the thing....it isn't allowed. Neither are toasters or small microwaves, or crock-pots. Or more than the 'legal' number of guests in a room. BUT.....people continue to do exactly what they want, and usually nothing happens. So....the 'rule' is no lit candles. Do with that what you will.
