Toying with the idea of a long weekend with dh in August. Only a one br avail at ssr. We have passes and an air credit, so really only food. Will the heat be unbearable? Is it orth it for four nights?

Just booked four nights in November at ssr. So looking forward to it. We are going to do a few day trips this summer. Any input on fun things to do without the kids. We have Aps. I'm thinking yachtsman steakhouse, evening shows like illinations. When do Xmas lights go up at the studios? Mvmcp? Any ideas welcome!:yay:

We have done an adults only trip the past two years, just DH and myself. Our trips were in the beginning of September and the weather isn't much different. Still very hot and humid. The nice thing about the adult only trips is you'll find you can get around quicker and easier. You can spend more time in the AC when you need and its a bit more relaxing. Even with the heat we enjoy our time and always come home relaxed with having a wonderful time :goodvibes.

Questions of worth are always tricky because what may be worth it to me, may not be at all worth it to you. In my opinion any time away from the kids no matter how horrible the location is totally worth it. We went last year to WDW on an adults only trip in July, for 3 nights. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. It was hot. I don't know how it compares to August, but it was outrageously hot when we were there. AND HUMID. Everyday it felt like it was just about to rain the entire day, but it NEVER rained. It was like walking through a sauna. The heat didn't bother us though because we weren't rushing to be anywhere, and there weren't any kids whining about the heat. We went slow. Ate and drank a lot (especially adult beverages), and just enjoyed our time with each other. We are going back next week to do the same thing we loved it so much. In fact we loved it so so so much that we added on points so we can do it every year!!!!

So here are some things for you to think about, for your particular situation:
1. Will getting the 2 bedroom require you to take points away that are needed for your next family vacation or do you have points to spare. Are you willing to change your next vacation's accommodations to accommodate using the extra points for a 1 bedroom over a studio for this trip. Will you start a vicious borrowing cycle?
2. Do you need to buy park tickets or do you have annual passes? Do you have the money for park tickets if needed?
3. How long are your airline tickets for? Will you lose them if not used?
4. If cost is at all an issue for you, would going to a resort/hotel/camping someplace closer to home provide you the same time away from the kids but at a more affordable cost(both points and $$ cost).

As I said before, any adult only trip anywhere would be worth it to me, but I really really loved our adults only Disney trip last July. Only 6 more sleeps until we do it again!!!!!

Lots of good thoughts. We have Apa so no cost for tkts. We have points to spare. In reality it would be car rental and food. Heat is the stumbling block. Dh hates the heat. I figure we'd spend evenings in the parks and do other things during the day. Going to float the idea tonight.

After almost 50 summers in South Florida I will tell you this. August is hot. Humid too. Not Las Vegas or Arizona hot, but mid 90s with lots of humidity. That being said, wear a hat or scarf and don't hesitate to stop for shade when you feel the need and it isn't too bad. We sometimes go on rides we don't normally do just to suck up some wonderful AC ;-)

It typically doesn't cool down until the end of October. I've been in Florida for 31 years. This last year, we've actually been fortunate to have some surprisingly pleasant days, we have been thrown off by the cool days and evenings that are really out of place, lots to do with cold fronts getting pushed down our way. Not really the norm. We've noticed it a lot while visiting the parks, and being thankful for cool breezes and slightly cloudy weather to keep the sun off us. We love when it rains during summer, it does help cool it down a bit, but then if the sun comes out really strong again you drown in humidity.

Summers are pretty hot, humid, and opressive. I couldn't imagine what it might be like for someone with breathing problems. When I go into our garage, it's so hot, it winds me. But, as you mentioned, the best thing to do is stay in the AC during the day, and venture out in the evenings to the parks. Take advantage of extra magic hours. Use the pool or take in some entertainment during the day, maybe see a movie at AMC in DTD. Try the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. Maybe take an early show for Hoop Dee Doo. I think if you promised not to be out during the hotest parts of the day, your husband might be more willing to go. You can still enjoy the parks in the evening. That's what we usually do, we don't get started until 5 or 6. We can't stand that mid-day summer heat.

DisneyRegulars had a lot of good points, it is hard to say if it's worth it for others. We don't know what would make it worth it for you.

Not going to happen. Dh says its not worth it for four nights. Disappointed. I'd like a few days just the two of us and wdw is the cheapest way to do it.

What if you just go on a quick 2 day trip somewhere close, with just Saturday night in a hotel? Surely this would cost less than 4 days at Disney, and would get you that much needed alone time. Get someone to watch the kids, and then escape all day Saturday and come back in time to put the kids to bed on Sunday. Maybe ask DH what budget you do have available and go with it. If the budget is $0, maybe just send the kids away to grandmas and stay home kid free for a night. If the budget is $200 I'm sure you can imagine lots of things to do locally to have some adult only fun.

We are going to try for a night away in August. Dh says we'll do four nights alone in November when it's cooler. Checking availability and flight times now. My sister will watch the kids. I can live with that. Heading to niagara on the lake in August. :)
