Adults eat and kids play, anywhere?

We are meeting relatives during our Disney vacation next week. They want to pick us up and go off site to the Olive Garden  Nothing against Olive Garden but I have one of them at home in NJ. Plus we would end up having one of us outside walking our toddler around when she is finished eating while the other chats at the table with them.

Is there a place where we could eat outside and have our 2yo have room to move around? It could be at any resort or park. Counter service is fine if we can find a place to enjoy the time with the relatives. I just know they want to spend time catching up and our 2yo will be "finished dinner" a lot sooner than they will.

Well if it's for the kids to play... one of the McDonalds in Orlando has a big playland... :rotfl:

I'm not sure there is such a place... you could always bring the kids to a Kids' club and go to whatever restaurant you want.

Otherwise the restaurants I could think of would be too noisy to chat with table-mates. These are geared towards kids not discussion.

My best option for you would be one of the more isolated pavillions near Flame Tree BBQ. If memory serves me right it was pretty nice, outdoors, with a decent view of things. That being said your 2 year old might get antsy.

I would suggest either going to the Boardwalk or Downtown Disney. At DtD, a good place to eat is Wolfgang Puck Express (it's ALMOST a sit down...you order food at the counter, but they bring it to you when it's ready). There is outdoor seating there, and it's sort of tucked away in a little courtyard. The plus to this restaurant is that you don't have to wait long for your food, or to pay the bill at the end, but the food is REALLY good quality. Lots of variety for all. And, when your DD gets antsy, you can let her walk around a bit. PLUS, when you are all done eating, you can just wander around DtD and chat. The Lego store has an outdoor play area, and there are many opportunities for your DD to "wander" and see fun things at Downtown Disney in general.

At the Boardwalk, same thing. AFTER dinner, you can walk around the boardwalk, enjoy the scenery and "catch up" with your relatives, while your DD will get to enjoy some outdoor time.

The truth is, they need to be aware that with a 2 year old, there won't be a long winded leisurely conversation after dinner...

Where do you take your daughter at home?

Also why not bring some small toys, crayons, coloring book etc that she can do at the table.

We stayed at POR in April 2008 and in the food court there is a section for kids to play. We loved this!! They had a long table with crayons and papers to color. Also legos to build with. And a flat screen TV on the wall with cartoons playing. Wow did we love this especially at night when we adults could enjoy a snack and hot drink while the kids happily played nearby.

It is not something that we do except on a blue moon when we need to have a complete meal with conversation, but you can also bring a personal DVD player for your child to watch at the table.

Pizza Planet in DHS. They have video games, and while some or most of the games might be too old, there are some that are age appropriate.

There is a Landry's that has a playground which will allow you to let the 2 yr old play before and the adults to catch up while waiting of a table, then you eat and move back outside to let the child play again, while you guys sit at the playground and talk longer if need be. It is kinda the same as going to McD's or Chick fil A but have a nice dinner instead of fast food!

We took our DGD (3) and DGS (7) in May to WDW and we had some wonderful meals. The one that sticks number 1 in my mind is Biergarten. All the adults visited at the table while the kids danced to the band. Well, the adults did some dancing too. Who can resist the chicken dance? Another popular meal was Mickey's Backyard BBQ. But you really do need to watch your children closely. So maybe people can take turns doing that while the young ones play.

I was also thinking Biergarten--It is a little noisey----but so what. Ask for a table down front and your child can dance near your table and run around with the other children.

Blue Zoo offers complimentary babysitting at the kids club (2 hours I think) if you dine there. I think the offer may extend to IL Mulino as well, but you would have to double check that. (Swan/Dolphin resorts..no park tickets needed)

Also Gaylord Palms has wonderful restaurants, and they have child care as well, not sure complimentary or not but worth checking in to.

Another option is to go with the disney recommended service, kids night out. Sitter comes to your room, they are fantastic. Very pricey, but worth it to have a chance to visit during dinner.
