However, I also suspect that, in reality, these costumes are probably not as "nice" or as close to actual character costumes as the pictures show.

Given these are from a Japanese site, I'd put money on them being extremely high quality. I was in Tokyo Disneyland in October 2017 and was amazed at the quality of dress/outfits the visitors wore to the park. Also remember that in Japan they can dress up/cosplay as Disney characters during the Halloween season. They don't fool around and age didn't seem to matter...or gender for that matter. Truelly a different culture.

It is when you dress in the colors and some clothing of the characters but not exact costumes. Just google Disney Bounding images and you will see tons of pics.

DisneyBounding is an alternative form of cosplay in which the participant dresses up as an iconic Disney character in casual contemporary fashion by assembling a color-coordinated outfit that is subtly evocative of the aforementioned character.

My daughter does Cosplay at the Comic Cons and many times she will take a male character (like Jack or Bucky Barnes or Captain America, etc.) and use the same clothing and colors but make it a female version. It's fun to see the variations.

What did you decided to do? Like others said I've never seen adults dress in full costumes for formal/semi-formal night. My kids and I did a lot of Disbounding on our last cruise and I had a lot of fun with it.
