Adults at Character Meals

Hi - I just wanted some opinions on what to expect as a party of three (moderately shy) adults going to a character meal at Liberty Tree Tavern. There will be no children in our party, and so I had avoided booking any character meals (do adults seem totally out of place?), but we all really want to try Liberty Tree Tavern just because of the theming, etc. of the restaurant (don't get me wrong - Goofy is my favorite and I wouldn't say no to having a photo!). (1) Are character meals usually only parties with children? and (2) What do the characters do throughout the meal? Are they constantly going from table to table throughout the entire meal or do you think they just stop by for a photo op? I know this sounds like a ridiculous thing to be stressed about, but I have no idea what to expect

Me and my husband have eaten at LTT twice, no children. The characters circulate during the entire meal. I love eating at LTT, the characters have always been great.

Don't worry, you won't be shy after you leave! You may want to try the Crystal Palace. Menu is better and characters are tamer! Have fun!

You should definitely try the LTT for lunch. You can order off a menu which has wonderful selections, plus the food at lunchtime is delicious. That way you can enjoy the LTT in a more subdued atmosphere which is character-free.

I did 3 character meals last week just adults and would say i got treated no differently than when I had my kids with me the year before. All the characters were happy to stop for cuddles, photos, a chat, and they circulated right back if they had time. It was a great experience

I avoided character meals on adult trips for a long time - but wanted to try the dinner at LTT. I am on the shy side too - I was more there for the food, but the characters still stopped by the table. I think they kind of judge how interested you are in having them stop by. I'm pretty sure if you didn't want them to stop by, you could mention it to the hostess too.

We have no children, and are not at all apprehensive about dining at character meals. Be not afraid, adults can have fun with characters, too!

My husband and I had dinner at Chef Mickey's last year and we loved it!! I don't think you will feel out of place at all. Just remember that you're at Disney World - it's for the "young at heart of all ages" so they can "laugh and play and learn together"! Disney World is for everyone, not just little kids. That's one of the things that I love about Disney World - you can be silly and have fun and skip down Main Street, and not have to worry about who's watching. If you want to eat with Mickey then just go for it!

Picture this....54 yo female and her 86 yo mom eating at 3 character meals. That's us for the September trip. I will never give up my characters

Last year was our first trip with a child. We went 2 other times prior and always went to character breakfasts (the more the merrier!!!) Adults definitely are NOT out of place there. The characters will stop, say hello, pose for a picture, if you want, and be on their way.

Go, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll love it!!

My DH and I went to LTT last year...it was our first trip ever to the world and I wasn't sure how things would be with a character dinner. But, I wanted us to experience all the joy Disney has to offer (just because we couldn't get there as kids, we are still kids at heart).

I specifically chose LTT because of the characters there (we love Minnie and Goofy) AND the food (we have "inexperienced" palates! )

The characters came to our table at least twice each.

I was nervous about character interaction too...but it was FABULOUS!!! My DH now loves this place and wants to go there every time we are at WDW.

We were on our honeymoon so it seemed that maybe the characters paid a little more attention because we were wearing our wedding ears. Maybe not...we each got pictures of us with all the characters (Dale was especially "silly" with me) and Pluto asked to come home with us!

Believe me when I tell you that the characters WILL interact with adults just as much as they do with kids. And it's wonderful!

We can't wait to go back! If your family has only half as good a time as we did, you will be praising the Disney magic for many years to come!

Our first 8 years we were just two adults. We always did character meals. Never felt out of place. Now we have a DS(8) so haven't been without a child for quite some time. But, I know I never think anything of seeing several adults at a character meal ... afterall it is Disney. Also, when it was just the two of us, the characters interacted with us as much then as they do now with a child. Have fun!

Thanks so much for all your responses. I think I'll just lighten up and enjoy, as you all suggested, instead of worrying about impressing Pluto and Goofy with an array of clever one-liners (of which I had none) It seems like the characters are used to interacting with everyone (of every shyness-level), so I'm beginning to actually look forward to this!

What a great thread! My DH and I will be going for the first time to WDW in September. I wanted to try a charcter meal too so we are having dinner at LTT. Our kids our grown but it is still fun see other people's kids interact with the characters. Looking forward to it!

I'm glad to see this thread. Dh and I want to eat at Garden Grill and LTT both during this trip, but really aren't interested in having the characters stop by but for a few seconds, if even that.

I hadn't thought of telling the hostess that we didn't want character interaction...I don't want them to think that we are the grumpy old spoilsports who don't like Mickey!

I've been to several character meals on adult trips and I've always had a great time. The characters are good at judging how receptive you are to interaction. I've seen them just wave to a table of adults and keep moving if the adults' body language indicated they weren't interested in hugs and pictures.
