Adult Trick-or-Treaters

Is this a law that they enforce?

Or is it one of those laws that no one ever pays any attention to? Such as, here in Idaho it is illegal to frown in public but I highly doubt anyone is going to get arrested because of it.

If it is something that is enforced then I can guarantee I won't be moving to VA anytime soon. When my daughter is over 12 I want her to be able to do something as innocent as ToT if she wants to.

I don't know how much it is enforced. but I do know that it was right up there on the link that I got from the newspaper with the article from the police department and it is actually on the police departments website.

Oh, that is rude. BUT then I think anyone over 12 shouldn't.:confused3

Hey, I think it's fine as long as we're in a costume! I went trick or treating and I'm 15, and I was wearing a costume.

Oh, and just for the record, we all said trick or treat (sometimes simultaneously) and we all said thank you, at least I think we all did! And we only complained once or twice, not gonna lie :rotfl:

I had 6 adults not in costume (just sweatshirts and jeans) who ToT'd with ONE baby, not old enough to eat solids. Really?

I had a grandma at my house trick or treating with her grandson. It was very odd to me. I thought she was kidding until she stuck out her pail.....

I give candy to anyone who bothers to dress up, as long as they aren't rude. I really dislike putting a random age limit on something that is such a fun holiday. Kids grow up so fast, I say let the teenagers (and adults) have a little fun.

our house policy is if you have a costume, you can get candy.

Where I live it is a Class 4 misdemeanor for anyone over the age of 12 to TOT. So no, I better not have an grown up come to my door next year when my DD who will be 13 can't.

Geez, what??? Terrible!!!

It's very sad that a 13 yo is not allowed to ToT. I think as long as teens are respectful and dressed up, they should be encouraged to enjoy a night of harmless fun. Think of the other things they COULD be doing, you know?

Exactly.

That is absolutely insane.. Great way to encourage 13 year-olds to be out doing something even worse on Halloween.. We complain about young teens smoking, drinking, doing drugs, teen pregnancies, etc. - but the law jumps right in there and flat out says, "If you are over 12 years old, you are no longer a child and therefore or no longer allowed to trick-or-treat.."

Annnnnnd exactly!

Well, we get 400+ TOTers going through our garage haunt each year. This year it DID seem that there were many more older kids and adults TOTing.

We always give treats out to ANYONE who wants one. Halloween time gives my family so much joy...we like that people want to share in the spirit.

On the subject of no costume, no candy, I always give regardless of costume. You never know the circumstance, so I don't judge. Some kids are too shy to wear one. Some families don't have the money. Some kids have parents who have weird religious views. Some kids have hard working parents who didn't have the time to get one in time. Others just may have a lazy parent who forgot.

It's funny, but one can find TONS of threads here on the Disboards where grown adults complained that Disney didn't provide them with as much treats at the Halloween parties as the kids. Why is it okay to TOT at Disney, but not in your own neighborhood?

Because you paid at Disney?

My grandmother used to dress up and Tick-or-Treat to just a couple of houses in the neighborhood. The first year she did it, I was handing out treats (I was in high school) and she just said she was walking over to our neighbor's....I had no idea she had changed into a costume. Well, she was my oldest TOT that evening....I had no idea it was her, untill she started laughing so hard :rotfl:. The neighbors thought it was great too, they would usually invite her in for coffee/doughnuts, etc.

I enjoyed those Halloweens, I would had out candy and then grandma would tell me stories of how she "tricked" the neighbors while I talked about the costumes I saw. I think she saw it as a fun night for her after all of those years that she stayed home while Grandpa and I TOT.
