Adult pool question

We’re scheduled to go on the Fantasy. I have to young adult sons, ages 20 and 21 at time of our cruise. Both boys happen to have Down syndrome, and my question is...while they are technically allowed to be in the adult areas and pools, is the adult pool area so quiet that if they get “rambunctious” and maybe want to jump in making a splash, are people going to get upset?

Honestly, the vibe there is very quiet with people just relaxing in the pool. I have been on 19 cruises and have never seen rowdiness at the adult pools.
You maybe better off at the family pool, its much more active and playful over there.
The pools get very crowded on sea days, I'm not even sure there would be room for jumping into the pool without hitting someone.

I am a platinum cruiser and I agree with Lorimay. It is a very quiet Zen environment. Someone may say something and upset you. A quick story...My 12 year old daughter brought something to me in the adult area. A guy walked by and said "Somebody thinks they're all grown up". (meaning my daughter did not belong there, and he was right). I quickly shooed my daughter out of the area. Point is, there is always someone willing to offer unwanted opinions and remarks. I would hate for you to be upset.

The family pool is Very fun and lively!

They're adults, so they have every right to use the adult pool. Some people might not like them to be slightly rambunctious, but that's their problem. That said, I can't remember if jumping in is allowed or not.

The adult pool area is fairly quiet, but it isn't a library. Sometimes you have loud talkers, people drinking a bit too much and laughing loudly, etc.

The family pools tend to be very crowded and are more geared toward children with their parents to use, rather than all adults to use. However, it isn't against any rules for all adults to use the family pool.

I agree with @Cheburashka. Your sons are adults and should absolutely be allowed to use the adult pool. I've also been at the adult pool plenty of times when the drinks were flowing and people were laughing and talking loudly, so not exactly a zen moment. Yes, sometimes it can be very quiet, but sometimes not so much.

I would think jumping in the pool would be frowned upon, but assuming you talk to them about that ahead of time, I see nothing wrong with your adult sons enjoying the adult pool. The family pool is pretty awful. It's kid soup, and not somewhere I'd want to swim.

neither deep nor big, jumping is kinda a hazard.

The adult pool is not big enough for running and jumping in. My son also has special needs and we just sort of sit and cool off in the adult pool.

I was on the Magic Dec 2019, and the adult pool often had times when it was empty or virtually empty. I agree that your sons have every right to enjoy the adult pool, but I don’t think jumping in would be a good idea since the pools are fairly shallow.

I like trying to swim in the pool personally. I am too short to stand around in the pool. It’s shallow but still over my head, and just sitting in the water on the edge is completely lost on me, so I like to enjoy the pool my way which means I prefer them when they are not too busy.

Best times for emptier pools based on my observations were: early morning, during port days, and in the evenings...especially during first dining. I had the entire pool to myself with one other person while ported in Grand Cayman. I took one end and swam back and forth a bit and did some leg kicks and floated a bit. No one looked at me sideways or said anything. Some other people got in after a while and also swam a little, so if it’s not too crowded, a little more active experience is totally fine in the adult pools, but the area does stay fairly quiet for the most part.

I was traveling in December, so it did get fairly cool on deck some evenings which may have been part of the reason for empty pools, but there definitely was a marked drop in number of people on deck when families headed to first dinner seating, so even the family pools were much less busy then.

While the Quiet Cove pool on the Magic class (Magic & Wonder) can lend itself to some "lap" swimming,

the one on the Dream class (Dream & Fantasy) does not

I would still “swim” in it if it was as empty as the one I was on. To me, pools are for moving around and having fun in...not to act as substitutes for bathtubs.

Standing in one spot in a tub full of water in public just seems super weird to me. I don’t get it at all! I realize I am not average on this topic.

Also, I should say that my version of swimming is not actual lap swimming really (some back and forth on the short end but not always technically swimming with strokes); I am not serious like that when I’m in the pool. I actually feel very much like a big kid when I get in water. I stay quiet and don’t splash others, but I wanted the mom who started the post to know just because most of the adults don’t really play in the pool or even move around, it’s ok for her sons to do so. They are adults and paid a lot of money for the cruise, and sometimes there are better opportunities to get a little more space to move around in the adult only pools than the family pools.

Your sons are old enough to be in the adult pool. Your family has every right to be there.

I don’t think people are allowed to jump in any pool and there wouldn’t be enough room for it as they get crowded... But your sons have every right to be in the adult pool.

At times, not all that often, but I have seen the adult pools get rowdy. A few cruises ago on the Fantasy there were people doing canon balls into the adult pool. It got crazy and CM's had to intervene.

Heck, I remember when back in the day DCL used to have a best legs contest for men at the family pool and all different adult pool games at the adult pool.

yikes , sounds like a carnival or Royal cruise , glad that stopped

Are we supposed to be offended by legs now?

Even though I’m not really into « best anything » contest, it still sounds kinda fun to me. Nobody is forced to participate or watch.

p.s.: Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruises are also awesome.

I've seen some rowdy times at the adult pool. But I haven't seen people jumping in. As others have said, it's quite a small pool and soisnt really safe. Also, always check on satellite falls.... its not jumping deathwatch all, but if its empty they might enjoy a splash around up there. It's more relaxing than the adult pool and q quite vibe when it's being used, but if you are on your own I'm sure a splash around would be fun.

In all honesty though, like others have said, your sons have every right to be in the pool and use it how they wish. If anyone has the audacity to make a comment, that's on them - you have paid to be there as much as they have. Vacation how you want to!

I think we were on the same cruise. That was pretty crazy
