is this frowned upon?

I realise it's not a 'cost effective' method of utilising ddp-however that's not an issue-we've got free ddp.

Assuming it's allowed, are the portions larger or the same size as a child's meal would be?

Finally, if the chosen main course is a child's portion-is it still possible to have an adult dessert?

I have gotten my daughter, a "disney adult" an adult portion of an item on the kids menu (I don't remember the specifics, but it would be like getting chicken strips that aren't offered on the adult menu but instead of the 3 a child would get, they brought her 5) we used her adult DDP credit and she got an adult dessert. I'm thinking this must have been 50's Prime Time, because on that trip we did lots of buffets, so no issue.

It will depend on the restaurant. Most of the Disney owned restaurants will let anyone order from the kids menu, even when using dining credits. You can ask if they will upsize it to an adult portion and if you can order the adult dessert since you'll be using an adult credit.

Some of the third party restaurants may not allow it when using credits because of the way they are reimbursed by Disney for the dining plan.

We've had such great experience with our (now 13-year old) daughter not wanting to order from the adult menus at so many locations, including Cinderella's Royal Table last weekend! The servers will typically offer to bring a larger portion of something on the kids' menu, but don't hesitate to ask if they don't! She totally had an adult dessert too. Just like purple figment said, it does depend on the restaurant, but you're not likely to have an issue because they all want happy and full kiddos.

I havent used DDP but try to watch what I eat and usually order off childrens menu if here is something I like. Ive also dkne thtis at CG. Sometimes I just order an app. Maybe that would be good too if you are looking for less food.

Ive found the potions just fine with the childrens menu.
