Adult Kids Making Own Accounts

For the longest time, everyone in my family has just been on my MDE account. It was just easier to manage everyone in one place rather than creating a bunch of different accounts and then trying to link them.

I'm going on a trip in October with my oldest (adult) son and me. We just got our MagicBand+ order, and I'm not sure if I should pair his with my account or have him finally set up his own. Setting it up and linking it is easy enough, but the tickets and room are all under my account. I'm not sure if, or how, I'd transfer the ticket over to him, or how I'd link him to my room reservation. Are either of those things possible?

My niece and her family are going with us and I've already linked to all of their accounts. We're going to MNSSHP, and she bought the tickets for that. Once he creates his own account, we'll need to link everyone to him I assume, and then would he have his party ticket on his own account?

I'm sure this must be much easier than It feels like it's going to be, but I'm kinda worried about "breaking" things.

If he is going to manage plans I would invite him to create his own account from in your account instead of having him create his own account and link back.

From your friends and family list you should be able to manage his profile and select to share planning with him. You can then enter his email and when he creates his account it transfer the plans to his account and you can co-manage plans together.

That looks easy enough - thanks. I guess this question is really being prompted by the MagicBand+. I'm assuming he'll want to pair it with his phone (instead of mine), and if we do it this way it seems like he'd still be connected to his tickets and the room. Right?

The only thing I have to offer is that if you need to call, they can usually straighten everything out for you. And, whatever is linked to the person's MDE will be linked to them specifically if they have their own account. If he has his own account and the tickets and room are linked to that account, and then he links in a new Magic Band to his account, they will be linked because it is all linked to a person.

DD just created her own MDE a few days ago. Before she created her account I linked her MB+ to my MDE for her. I just checked and her MB+ does not show up in my MDE account anymore. I assume it’s only in her account now. Once she wakes up I’ll have her double check her MDE.

I shared my plans with her and she can see our reservations and tickets. She can make G+, ILL and dining reservations. Her tickets are still connected to her.

What we found worked best when traveling with multiple families is to have a single MDE account for each ROOM. Everyone in that room was on a single account. We then joined the various groups together as 'friends' or whatever term Disney uses so everyone could view the plans that were made. You have to be VERY careful using MDE as someone can easily delete ADR's and other similar things if they aren't very good using their computer. As I recall, tickets are all by person so you can easily add the ticket to the correct person using the serial # of that ticket.

We never saw any benefit to people in the same room having separate accounts and seems it would just make everything more complicated.

I had DD create an account to help me get certain G+, ILL and VQ before they sell out. One morning she will do GOTG VQ while I do G+ and ILL for DHS.

She will also be going on her senior trip in next year so might as well get her used to MDE prior to that trip.

So trying to think of the simplest way to explain this and not overcomplicate it. Pairing the MB+ to your phone is really for the + features. So customizing the magic band light-up effects etc. So he should probably pair it to his phone because that's where he'll want to make those adjustments to the physical MB. There are two ways he could pair it to his phone being logged into your account (because you currently control his profile under your account) or by logging in to the new MDE account you are going to invite him to create because you will be transferring the ownership of his profile to him.

That being said your question about tickets and room reservations doesn't really have anything to do with the pairing. Assuming you bought your MB+ through a Disney resort reservation his magic band is already linked to the profile you've created for him for things like his resort reservations and tickets because MBs come activated. When you invite him to create his own MDE account it will transfer that profile you have set up and ownership of the MB over to him for him to own and manage. He'll also be able to co-manage plans with you and make reservations or do other things because he'll now manage his own profile and you'll be linked as friends and family.

Hopefully, this part isn't too complicated... famous last words. The way magic bands work is they act as a key to the MDE profile they are linked to. So the MB itself doesn't store any data and when you go to enter a park with your MB it pings the MDE profile it is linked to and if it finds a ticket there it lets you enter the park. Currently, your son's profile lives on your MDE experience account and the magic band is linked to that profile. So you want to move that entire profile over to him by inviting him to create his account. Telling Disney no longer associate this profile with my email address and associate it with his email address. Once you invite him to take control of the profile you'd previously managed everything should just move over he'll have access to both the key and also the ability to manage plans himself, make his own LL reservations etc. The pairing of your phone is there to tell the MB+ change the blinky light display but doesn't change the way a MB acts as a key to a MDE profile.
