Adult Disney Fans, Please Respond!

Man, if someone said to me, "You're an adult, why are you going there", I'd just shake my head and say, "You'd not be asking that if you'd been, yourself".

I'd imagine that even those among us who have been dozens of times have not seen everything they wanted to. It's not as if you're going back to stay at the same dumb Super 8 along the Interstate to do the same exact stupid vacation things (mall, anyone?)

DH and I are 25 too, and started our love for disney on our honeymoon in 2002. I actually started a similar thread many months ago because I wondered the same thing. There are lots of us out there. Most people I'm around think it's great we are able to go so often, but DH gets teased at work a lot. He takes it in stride, but I think it irritates him sometimes. We usually go 2 times a year....we keep saying we need to cut back and not go so often, but we just can't seem to do it.

My dh and I, 25 and 26, are goig to WDW on April 1-8 and we are child free. Well not exactly we are just leaving them home. DH has never been to WDW..can you believe?? Anyway, Disney is the only place i will ever go and DH knows and is excited to go. We are staying at Movies resort and like you are not staying in the room much eeither.

I am a Disney Fan and Proud Of It!!!

Hope you can hold on til the trip I only have 47 days and it is driving me Crazy

DH (27) and I (24) are going in late Nov. and staying at POP.

I am completely obsessed with Disney (you should see my house). I get the occassional comment about why do I like Disney or why do I want to go again, but I just ignore it.

The same people that question me are the same ones that come to me for info, so go figure. A few people have never even been so they have no idea what it is even about (don't knock it till you try it, you know?)

Disney is what makes me happy. It allows me to forget about "real life" for awhile. DH just said the other day that he loves taking me because it makes me smile bigger than he has ever seen.

I'm a senior...and LOVE Disney.....hubby goes when he can...but I go everyday when we're down there. I just "hang out" doing my own thing..and love every bit of it. I've had an annual pass for many years now...and it's my only splurge for ME...I eat what I want...and when I want...I love to watch the people and always find something new to do!! Barb in Texas

My husband and I love Disney. We will go twice this year. In February we are taking a dear friend who has been going through a tough time. We want to make it special for him. Any recommendations?

I love that feeling of going to Disney. I too am bringing some friends and 5 of the 8 that are going have never been there or went when they were little. So to make it extra special I am getting a package from Jane Cartelli - of dreamsofalifetime she is creating a scavenger hunt around one of the parks for me. It is a surprise to everyone else (including my husband), it also makes it a little extra special for me too. Anyway it is a little costly but I did it before and it was amazing. It's funny the lengths I will go to - so many people do not understand the glory in Disney World.

When confronted with this I remind folks of the people that have a summer home or ski chalet. There are thousand folks that would go generation after generation to the Catskills and the like. In my life I've been to beaches all over the world and guess what...many of them are remakably similar!

Not all vacations are about discovering the new, some are about enjoying the familiar.

People that don't understand why we continue to go back will never understand. People at work don't "get it". They think it's too expensive, too boring etc. I love it & never get tired of it. I lost my DH to cancer in 2003 & WDW is such a treat for me. My DSs (19yrs & 11yrs) as well as my DD (18yrs) really enjoy WDW but I'm the real fanatic. Once all my kids are grown & no longer vacation with me - I'll have no problem going alone. It's a great vacation & escape from everyday stresses - I feel great when I'm there!
If I had the money, I'd go more often & enjoy every minute of it. People who don't want to visit don't know what they're missing & that's fine with me. Some of the nicest people I've ever met I met at Disney & here on the boards. I think we should all enjoy Disney - we know it's the best!

We will be going to DW first time in 10 years. Am sure things have changed. This time it will be DH, my sister and I. My DH and I are non-smokers. My sister does smoke. :-( BTW we are all >50's. Old by some standards. Young at heart.

Question: Some of you ole' timers stay at different hotels every visit. Some stay off site, then on-site. Why do you change hotels? Some better hotels than another? OR ???

Disney fanatic doesn't even begin to cover me... LOL... I have been a huge Disney fan all my life, but my family never took me there as a kid.. So I am now making up for lost time. My Fiancee' and I took our first trip there together back in 2003 and since then he has been as hooked as I am. I had been many times before that, but here was something special about going there with him. So now we are DVC members at SSR and have gone on DCL twice. Now we are going back on DCL in Oct. on the DVC member cruise.

This year will have gone on two DCL cruises and stayed for one week at AKL... People that we know think that we are crazy... One friend of mine says to me all the time... You are aware tha there are other places, better places to go right? I just look at him and say nope I had no idea... Oh yeah wait there is Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong, etc.... Oh and there is the Cruise line... He got mad and just said your nuts...

Then in Janary we do the ultimate fans dream... We are getting married at the wedding pavilion at WDW... I am getting to ride in Cinderellas carriage and Mickey and Minnie will be at me reception... Could life be better? Same friend as above called me when he heard this and said you really are crazy.... Who gets married at Disney... Alot of people... He said that he would never get married there and my response was... That is why I am not marrying you..... Did I mention said guy was an ex turned friend... Ghee wonder why it never worked...

So see you are not alone we all get the same greif, but the good thing is that there is nothing at all wrong with any us... There is just something wrong with everyone else who doesn't love Disney like we do... OK not really, but I thought that it sounded nice....

Why I stay onsite and offsite.

my much beloved and put apond cat is 19 years old - at WDW he would have to stay in a kennel. I can stay offsite have him in my room and still a couple of nights get my Disney fix....

okay I am addicted...

plus I am a DVC member those fri/sat points are killers....
sun-thur 8 points - but fri/sat - 20 points....

so I can stay fri and sat - or sun-thurs - I pick sun-thurs...if I have stay fri/sat I stay offsite....

I am so trying to stay at all the WDW resorts - only have a few left - AlStSports, AKL, POFQ and CSR....

This is the BEST response I have ever heard for the "why Disney again" question - DH and I are going to steal this response for sure.

We love going to DW - we went while dating, honeymooned there and have been back once since. We are trying for once a year, but truthfully if we could afford it, we'd go more

From all the responses - I know I am amongst "friends". My DH & I are in our 50's. I grew up going to Disneyland, watching Mickey Mouse Club, Wonderful World of Disney- and all the Disney Movies. The characters are familiar, and feel like "family". Once WDW opened, and we started to go there, it always gives us a comfortable, warm feeling. We could travel anywhere, and have taken trips all over the country, cruises,etc. But nothing comes close to the feeling we get as we enter the gates to WDW! It is truly like coming home Many people we know will never understand why we feel the need to get out Disney Fix once a year. We bought DVC so we have prepaid accomodations on-site for the rest of our lives. We raised our DD going to WDW almost every year. Now our DGrD is experiencing the Disney Magic also. She is 3, and had her birthday with Mickey Mouse last June. Not a day goes by that she doesn't ask "We go to "Mickey's Castle, we go there now?" Some people will never "get it" , just tell them they need to get some Pixie Dust on them and they'll be changed forever
Looking forward to "going home again" in November... Will be looking for more lime green ribbons in the crowd.

My DH and I first went to WDW in March 1976 (boy are we old!!!) when we were married just six months. Back then Magic Kingdom was the onlly park! I wanted to go there for our honeymoon but DH won out with Hawaii. I am now 53 and love it even more than I did the first time I walked down Main Street. Our adult children and my sister don't understand what we love about it! People that don't go or go and do no research before they go have no idea all there is to do and see! There is always something new every time we go!

I too am a disney nut. My dh and I was also married there ,I think 10 yrs ago. Had 2 other marriages can't keep track. In fact I am going on a solo trip april 1-9 for some regrouping. Feb has been a bad month with Mr. Death ,first my aunt who is now in a better place and my son's ferret. Now I know there will be people thinking I am a nut losing it over a ferret. This was my grandson. Also my son is hurting to and you hurt when your child hurts. So I am emotionally and mentally tired and going to disney will hopefully refresh me. Also the people who have pics of their pets will understand my pain and know disney will give me what i need. People always bug me about going to disney and I just tell them it makes me closer to my mom who is gone. Watching disney on tv was our time together with good memories. So who cares what people think I will always love disney no matter how old I am.

Spicey is 19 - this May he will 20, Mother is 83 this Oct she will be 84... I will lose them both soon ----- until then WDW here we come....

you know once they are both gone - I don't know about WDW it is so full of their memories....

but until then

While I'm not officially an "Adult or Solo Traveler" anymore I wholeheartedly understand! My signature says it all...and it seems like we're not the only ones who got addicted during a great WDW honeymoon

Shortly after we adopted our son I had someone ask me "oh, so you guys were planning on children, that's why you bought into the Disney timeshare, right?" Um, No, we had no intentions of children at the time we bought into DVC! We just LOVE going! So clearly this guy had been puzzled over the past years as to why two adults would have a DVC membership and go to WDW more than once a year...so using his logic - were all of those trips just warm up?

Edited to add - OK, so I guess I'm still an adult traveler, that clock does just keep ticking away!
