My DH and I first went to WDW in March 1976 (boy are we old!!!) when we were married just six months. Back then Magic Kingdom was the onlly park! I wanted to go there for our honeymoon but DH won out with Hawaii. I am now 53 and love it even more than I did the first time I walked down Main Street. Our adult children and my sister don't understand what we love about it! People that don't go or go and do no research before they go have no idea all there is to do and see! There is always something new every time we go! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm suprised your children don't like it since they were brought up by you guys who love it :confused3
People that I talk to always say they love DW so much because either it reminds them of when they were a kid going to DW, or because of their parents. My DH doesn't 'get it' like I do, so I have to make my future kids LOVE IT! lol

I am a high school teacher and have 6 disney tattoos. I get the "why do you like disney so much?" from students every semester. Also, "how many times have you been?" Why don't you go somewhere else is always the question from students and colleagues alike, but like you, I like to go because you can leave your worries at home and just have fun. It is so familiar it is like a second home. It also reminds me of my childhood and good family memories. Plus you can do disney for sometimes less than other resorts, say if you drive, or stay at a value resort and get a fridge.

Just go with what your gut says and forget about what others think. Unless they have been they will never understand.

Then in Janary we do the ultimate fans dream... We are getting married at the wedding pavilion at WDW... I am getting to ride in Cinderellas carriage and Mickey and Minnie will be at me reception... :cheer2: :woohoo: :worship: Could life be better? :

Congratulations! You are so lucky. Just this evening I was watching Disney Weddings on the Food Network. That was my dream 9 years ago but we couldn't swing it. Have a magical wedding!!

I never even went to WDW until I was an adult, and my DH took me there for the first time. He was (and is!) a huge Disney fan, since his parents took him there every summer. I went, expecting it to be very childish, and instead, I found the most romantic vacation destination ever :) So much so that we were married at the Wedding Pavilion, and return to our honeymoon hotel, the GF, every year for our anniversary.
Disney enthralled me, when I'd been expecting a very different experience as an adult visitor.
Cheers!

My DH and I went to WDW as adults also after pooh poohing it for years. LOVED IT!!! We are DINKS. Double income no kids. Last year we were going to celebrate our 30th wedding anni. at the Poly. But Hurricane Katrina came and we had to cancell. So now this year we are going to try again. It makes us feel young again. And we have the money to now enjoy the deluxe resorts so why not! One thing I have learned in these last 6 months, life really is to short so do what you want and no regrets.

Yeah I love WDW too, and visit often twice in the same year. But I also love New York City, and travel there quite often to see the Broadway shows.

There's magic in both places. Which is my favorite? Well .... I live in Florida, so ......

Enjoy

Forgive me if this has already been said - did not have time to read the entire thread (lunch time here at work).

Walt Disney wanted a place where he could take his childen and he would have fun too.

WDW is not just for kids - it's for everyone one.

My DH and I go every (sometimes twice) a year.

I try not to listen to those who say "why don't you go someplace else". If we wanted to go someplace else, we would, but we don't, so we go back to WDW. We try different resorts, to get a different experience and at different times of the year, because there is always something different at Disney.

Being at Disney, you can leave your worries at home. Disney treats you like guests - they really do. Not many companies can say that. It has always been a happy place for us.

Try not to listen to those nay sayers. Just enjoy your time there. :teeth:

DH & I are both Disney fanatics and we don't have kids yet! I am 29, he is 30. We also get comments when we say we are planning a vacation...when we're tell them we're going to Disney they ask "Again!?" usually with a smile though because they know us and they know it is our favorite place to vacation.
We went for our honeymoon 3 1/2 years ago and went all out that time. It was SO wonderful. We were undecided in the beginning of where to go for our honeymoon and when we went with DH's family during the holiday season 2000-2001, they asked "You're not going to come back here on your honeymoon are you, I mean there are so many other places to go instead!" Of course we couldn't think of anywhere else we'd rather be on our honeymoon, though we tried! :lmao: We had so much fun, wearing Mickey & Minnie Bride & Groom ears & all! Then we did it all over again for our 1st anniversary...
I just love Disney so much, I could go on and on. And now it's so much more to me than just the parks....I just love going into all the gift shops to look at all the Disney stuff! I could spend hours in World of Disney! We love going to the various hotels for dinner & to check out the restaurants & the various resorts! I could go on but we just love the whole feeling we have when we're at Disney. It's nice to read this post about the love the other people have for it too. We are going again in almost 2 months ...and just planned it a couple weeks ago! Never have we planned a trip on such short notice. But...it's been almost 3 years...we're due! I'm so excited!

After many trips with the kids, went childless in Feb. 2005. Rented points to stay at BWV, and when we checked in the castmember said "welcome home". Spent all of our time at Epcot except one morning at MK. Went back in October, same time as sister who is DVC member and goes 3 time/yr. Relaxed and saw new things at Epcot every day. Always found myself changing plans to go to other parks, so we could enjoy Epcot some more. Sister said, "I think you finally get it". Surprised wife with a one night trip in December for her birthday(quite the jetsetters). So much to see and experience during different times of the year. Been to Hawaii, Cancun, Vegas, Tahoe, Arizona, and California. Can't compare to the sound of "welcome home".

DH and I definately share in your love for Disney! We went for our first time in college, neither of us ever went as children, and both loved it. Since then we have spent our honeymoon there, as well as had another trip this past November. We are already planning a quick trip back either in March or April. It's just such a great place, we always leave feeling so happy we came and have such wonderful memories to look back on! Disney is just wonderful, I don't know how people miss that :confused3

We love going to Disney!! It makes us feel like kids again. Plus there is so much to do, between carriage rides, renting boats, etc. Some people truly don't understand that there is more than just the parks. That's fine, it certainly leaves more room for people like us!!

I am turning 50 this May so I said to my DH, I want to turn 50 with Mickey. We took our first trip in 1978 when MK was the only park. Walking through the gate was litterally a magical moment. I had watched The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights as a child. I had always dreamed of seeing Tinkerbell spreading pixie dust around the castle. There we were, with 2 small children and it was wonderful. We have been back so many times that I can't count. We are getting ready to close on our first DVC purchase. Our children are grown and now we have two grandchildren. Let me tell you that they are hooked! We take them on some of our trips and look at Disney through their eyes and then we go by ourself and it's a different trip. We have taken the Disney Cruise with the whole family and it was wonderful, at the time my granddaughter was two, months later she woke from her nap and said, " I want to take a Disney Cruise." This is what it is all about! We keep the Peter Pan attitude and Never Grow Up! Life is hard enough without somewhere to just be able to truly unwind.

:worship: yay!!! Finally someone around my age that I can relate too! haha. I'm 22 and I absolutly adore Disney. It's really something I talk about all the time & I drive everyone completely insane. I'm trying to get my friends to go on a group trip to Disney this year, but it's not working. I guess I'm too 'old' for Disney (according to them), and they fail to realize that there are a lot of adults out there that love it and there is nothing wrong with that at all! We all have our things and Disney happens to be mine; a place I will never grow out of or grow bored of. I honestly can't describe the feeling I get once I get off the plane and head to the World :hyper: It's something only us Disney fans can feel/understand.

Me and my husband are in our 40's and we love Disney! And to help us along with our Disney addiction our daughter is a pastry chef in Disney. Now we have a "real" excuse to visit Disney without people thinking we are crazy visiting so much. Since we are type A personality there is always something fun and exciting to do in Disney from early am to late pm.

In September I went to Aruba with my husband and some friends. I had a great time, but all I kept thinking was "This is not Disney!" :worried:
I tried to be happy and have a good time, but EVERYTHING we did I compared to Disney. When I am at Disney I feel at home. It just fits right.
My problem is that I actually become depressed when I get home. I build the trip up and plan and plan and plan and then I come home and

Thank goodness for the DisBoards! :cheer2: :woohoo: :Pinkbounc

I just have to add one more thought to this discussion.

Some people love to visit Walt Disney World over and over.

Some people love to go fishing over and over.

Some people love to go play golf over and over.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Enjoy.

Will be spending the big "SIX ZERO" with the Mouse in November.
Nuff said.......
