The wife and I going in Jan for 6 nights...NO KIDS in a 1BR at BWV. I thought perfect location for DDP as we can walk to EPCOT, HS, Beach/Yacht club etc. But then I remembered the change in the plan since last we used it and I have read many posts so I understand the changes. Still can't decide which would be best DDP or TIW, as we will be back with the kids in March and June. However when we are with our 3 young kids (6,3 and 2) .I can't stand going to any place to eat it is to much of a hassle. We do a couple of character dinning for the kids but almost always eat in the room and pack food. Just thought the DDP would be a nice choice and force us to get out for nice dinners.

So what would my fellow DVC friends do???????

TIW gets you a 20% discount (as I'm sure you know). TIW and DDP would both give you incentive to try new TS restaurants.

We have TIW. DDP can sometimes be complicated to use and may give you more food than you'd normally eat. We would be hard pressed to use all of our snack credits.

TIW pays for itself rather quickly - we just had a quick 5 day trip and already saved about half the cost of the card. We would have saved more, but ate a lot of meals at F&W festival.

TIW is accepted at the CS restaurants in AK, so you could use the discount when you go back with your kids.

Have you considered calculating which one gives you a better deal?

DH and I go twice a year (October and May) with no kids - all grown now. We like the idea that the TIW card covers your entire bill with alcohol where the DDP does not. The card has paid for itself in no time at all. We also have friends that live in Fla. and we meet them for dinner and it's nice to have the 20% discount. DDP was too much food for us and you also have to keep track of how many credits for each restaurant.

When making our decision, I printed out the menus from the restaurants we would choose to eat at. Then DH and I selected what we would probably choose to eat at each one. I popped the prices into an Excel spreadsheet then calculated the cost and compared it to the DDP cost. For us, even though DH is a vegetarian and his entrees tended to not be the most expensive, DDP made the most sense. That was before te change in plan though, and we don't drink much alcohol. I would suggest you do some rough calculations to see what would make the most sense for you. You'd have to figure out what restaurants you'd want to eat at anyway for reservations. But then again, that's the kind of thing I actually find fun!

I would choose TIW....especially at BWV.

They don't have a good counter service there...so unless you use them in the parks....it will be hard to use.

TIW also gives you 20% off the booze;) Nuff said:laughing:
happy planning

Actually we wil probably get the TIW regardless as I know we have ressies for our March trip and for 5 people will pay off right away.

So now for $500+ for the two of us that will buy some nice dinners and the booze :rolleyes1

I did some rough number crunching and yeah TIW makes the most sense. I like the idea of the DDP just pay upfront so you don't have to have that......this is costing us what!?!?!? feeling while there, not sure if that makes sense. But the new plan of cutting out the appetizer and 18% tip it is making the DDP not so attractive.

Thanks for the comments.......now I can't wait to get there!

We just got back from the BWV and used both. We had them split our bill and put anything (like alcohol) not covered by the DDP on a separate bill so we still got 20% off.

Just a thought.

TIW??? What is that? Thanks for your help.

Tables in Wonderland, formerly known as Disney Dining Experience or DDE. This card was often confused with DDP, Disney Dining Plan, so they changed the name.

To OP,

Although you pay upfront for the DDP I felt it was confusing/complicated to use and too much food for many of us. It can be a good deal if you have the typical bottomless stomachs of teenage boys.

I see it as a way for Disney to get more of your money upfront and then it's up to you to use it wisely.

If you do decide to go DDP, make sure you get your ADRs first, since if your chosen restaurants are full, you may end up eating somewhere that doesn't appeal to you since you have already paid for the meal.

I have the TiW card and it paid for itself on its first trip and I have 3 more trips planned before it expires.
