Adult Behavior

What an incredible daughter you have!! If everyone stood up and protected women and children from abusive, no-good drunks like this, just think of how much safer the world would be. Thank goodness that lady and little girl had your daughter to take them in and get them help.

What is WRONG with people getting drunk in front of their kids? I don't get it? I love a good glass of wine but I wouldn't think of getting drunk (especially if I was a mean, sloppy drunk) in front of them??

Sad...

Rejobako, that was very cute. Crochet Interuptus, indeed! I never get to see anything like that, but there was this one time in an elevator and the stop button got pushed.................. Ah to be young again.

There were no other passengers in the elevator at the time!

You were by yourself??!!?? ;) :rotfl2:

We sailed on the Magic once with a couple who were on their honeymoon. The reason they were honeymooning on the ship was because, as they put it, "We're the reason the deck 7 verandah is locked at night." They met on a church group cruise, of all things, and shall we say "discovered the magic" together out there. And they looked like the most innocent, wholesome couple you could imagine. One of the comedians kept referring to them as Ken and Barbie. If only he knew!
On the slipside, at one Match Your Mate show, they asked the question about "discovering the magic," and two of the couples had very exotic answers. But one said, "The bed in our stateroom...it's the only place we've EVER done it." Seems that they were Mormons who had waited until their marriage, and they were sailing for their honeymoon. I think that shocked more people than the ones who do it in the crazy places!

Don't you think we North Americans and Canadian's are such prudes!!!

Certainly in Germany and the UK would not have issues with some nudity - topless etc.

Now I know some of you will take this the wrong way. I am not saying that anyone should expose themselves inappropriately in front of children or act in a sexually inappropriate manner because they drank too much.... but I don't run and hide if I am changing and my children happen to walk in.

I want them to feel comfortable with their bodies and we respectfully tell them that we need some privacy.

My DD age 6 did see a woman on the Disney cruise last year whose bikini/halter slipped off and down on the other side and she simply stated " Mommy that lady needs some privacy"

It was quiete funny!! LOL .Overall I think you will always find some outrageous people wherever you go - even on a Disney Cruise. It's how we react and are affected by their behaviour that stays with us and sets an example for our children.

Being in the Travel Industry for a few years myself, I seen my share of things not worth repeating.
Wether @ Disney/Not.

People are people! :rotfl:

Nothing shocks me anymore!
My thing is : People are acting out because they lack things in their lives
perhaps her boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever shows no interest in her
or they just feel the need to be nude and dont' care who sees them :guilty:

whatever their cause-people in general must realize to some it's offensive and the rest of us really don't care how they parade around!

one more day for WDW

Pixie Dust to all!

Everyone enjoy your trips, they cost so much to go on and don't let strangers spoil them for you!

Now puh-leez don't go getting all defensive--this is all in fun, now, y'hear? So it is in that good hearted spirit that I ask if the poster who explains, and honestly and accurately enough, that it is quite natural for Europeans to take their tops off while sunbathing, and that such behavior is quite common in Naples....Darlin', what on Earth has the fancy pants community of Naples, home of the lovely Ritz Carlton, got to do with Panama City Beach, home of Gus, the 20,000 lb. Steer (And that's no Bull!)! (Thanks to the wonderful folks at Angelo's for the tacky but lovable landmark).

A foreigner in Panama City Beach means from North of the Mason-Dixon line. I know, as 14 years ago my wife took me to her family's cottage for the first time and I truly was introduced to red neck life. If you looked at the ground in PCB, you would think the state flower is the cigarette butt, so common and pervasive is its presence as a ground cover. PCB is so different from Naples that it is--literally--a different time zone! Air Brushing and Tattoos and T-Shirts Proclaiming "Panama City Co-Ed Naked Partying Team" are the order of the day.

That said, I love our annual treks to the family cottage, and that is without having seen anyone topless there, though some of the men, and probably me included, could use a little bit of lift and support. I do suspect, though, that the only folks making the trip to PCB from Europe are Anthropologists coming to study good ole boy behavior in a pick up truck, cruising on Front Beach Road.

And I have been in Naples and indeed it is elegant and vacationers there do visit from Germany and the other major European countries. And having been on DCL three times, I haven't seen much that wasn't family friendly. I like DCL, and I think most of my fellow DCL guests are like-minded and in search of a family-appropriate vacation. Now if DCL had a Club La Vela on board, we might get some seriously risque stories on here....

Quite likely parents who need to get drunk in front of their children have a drinking problem and perhaps are even alcoholic.

Abusive drunks deserve to be seperated from the general community (brig, house arrest, etc.) for the safetly of all involved.

They don't however deserve to be attacked by smug self-righteous types who lerk on disney message boards.
Alcoholism is a serious disease and if you can enjoy a galss of wine you should count your blessings instead of cursing those who can't.

Hate the sin love the sinner as they say.

LOL; I'm quite familiar with the "Redneck Riviera", having driven down there often for a day at the beach when I lived in Tallahassee. Great beaches on Florida's panhandle coast -- I really like St. George Island, in particular.

I wasn't trying to compare demographics; just mildly disagreeing with UGAfans suggestion that the beachgoer described in her post must have known she was out of place with her top off because no one else was topless. Doesn't matter if she was in Panama City, Naples, or Malibu -- if she was accustomed to an environment where the sight of naked winnebagos is no big deal, then she might not necessarily take notice as to whether all the pretty country girls in Panama City had theirs covered up.

Thank you...I think so....she has always been very responsible. Pres. of Peer Mediation in H.S., RA in college...she is a problem solver. She will make a great elementary school teacher....her major!! Thanks again...

This is Keri in one of her sillier moments onboard...

Thank you all for making me LOL this morning!
I have my own little story too. During our spring break '03 Eastern DC we took a taxi to Dawn Beach on St. Maarten. Turns out it was clothing optional, and there was a middle aged woman who was swimming topless. The rest of my party (another family of 5 and my son) got to twitterin' anc clickin' their tongues about her, but being the tinker bell I am, I wanted to mimic her! And I came real close, too but chickened out. (And I'm NO SI swimsuite model!) Turns out I was able to use that threat the WHOLE vacation. It turned out to be very useful! Isn't it intriguing how differently we all view the naked human body?

Not everyone who drinks to excess is an alcoholic. And in any event, the fact that alcoholism is a disease does not excuse the alcoholic from their responsibilities to their children.

And those who make that observation don't deserve to be attacked by smug self-righteous types who lurk on Disney message boards.

I don't see what suesings posted as being an attack and expreses a scentiment I share. It is quite sad that there are adults who find it necessary to get drunk in front of their children. Wheither or not they are aloholics is irrelevant because it's still a bad position (for the children) to be put in.

tonyj,
Your comments on the subject matter at hand are welcome here. But nubies posting personal attacks on posters who have been here for two years is not.

[EDIT]

Well stated.

Frankly HooKooDooKu, no one should be posting attacks on anyone else... regardless of their tenure on the boards. :sad2:

I know this is all a matter of opinion and I agree with your view as quoted above, HooKooDooKu. Isn't it safe to say that adults who get drunk in front of their children are teaching them how to drink irresponsibly?

This could get messy...:worried:

Here we go again! It must be the winter weather that is getting everyone all worked up.

Let's get back to the funny stories please - they are much more fun to read.

Yes, I think this may be a debate topic, rather than the original intent of the OP.

This did not happen on a Disney Cruise but it is a funny???story:

Before getting married my cousin, girlfriend and me went to Jamaica. We were waiting to get on a boat ride and these 4 elderly people got in line. They were just off the plane from California. Well.....the men were totally naked and the 2 ladies were naked but holding towels in front of them(if you have to cover yourself just put clothes on). We all got on the boat and began sailing. On the boat was an open bar in the galley. Guess what...one of the men sat on top of the entrance to the galley and stradled it.Yuch...needless to say no one had any drinks that day. On the other side of the coin there was a very good looking man who also chose to strip but at least he was young and everything still was firm.....

I agree. I only metioned the tenure issue because I found the "lurker" comment to be a bit amusing given that suesings has over 100 posts.

However, in hind sight, I can see how the tenure comment can also be seen as an attack comment in and of itself. I appologize if my comments seemed like an attack. Rack it up to emotions getting the better of me.

In my case, it's not DCL but the Smokey Mountains. We have difficult to get (and because of rules changes, now impossible) annual reservations for a true wilderness lodge on top of Mt. LeConte. The same weekend that we have reservations for, there is another group that brings plenty of alcohol up the mountain with them. There have been the humorus stories like the party member that went to the out-house in the middle of the night. They were so drunk they fell alseep and the other members of the party found him still in the outhouse the next morning. But there's also been the sad case of an adult walking (if you can call it that) around drunk with his 5yo son in tow. :sad2:
