ADT or Brinks? Do You Have Either One?

I have been researching both ADT and Brinks home alarm systems for my new home. I was curious if anyone here might have any experience with either one?

Both have good name recognition, and they seem to be similar as far as how they work. Pricing was very close, too.

How about false alarms? Anyone have trouble with those? What would you all recommend to me? A vicious dog and a Glock are not out of the question either! LOLOL!!

We have ADT...we have had no problems with them.

We have had it for 6+ years....(We originally got "SecurityLink", but they were bought out by ADT)..

The most important thing is the sign.

Our nieghbors got robbed a couple of years back....they had no signs and no alarm system.....

The day they got robbed and many days before and after....at my house ALL windows were open, no alarm was set and no one was home for 8+ hours......So, what saved us was the signs and stickers on the windows!

We have ADT but rarely turn it on. We have a friendly mixed breed dog-looks like a German Shephard but she barks whenever anyone comes. People are terrified of her. We just had a salesman come to the door and say - where is your dog? So we are getting a reputation!!! I'd take a dog any day.

Have you had any calls for home security promos for new homeowners? I know in Mass. there is an ADT offer for a free system. It is offered through an independant dealer though and not through the corporate office. I think they (Brinks and ADT) both operate similarly and have heard good things about both.

We have a local alarm system and they all work pretty much the same way. we love ours and use it everyday because our schedule is like clockwork and all someone would have to do is watch the house and they would know how long we are gone everyday. My parents have ADT and they like it as well. It is best to add it to a new house rather than an existing house. I vote for getting an alarm system, you don't have to feed or walk it.

We have had ADT for 2 years. No problems, no false alarms.

WE have Honeywell security. DH is the telecommunications guru for them, so we would NEVER have ADT or Brinks!

Thanx for the replies! I am leaning a bit towards Brinks at this point mainly because of the presentation the ADT authorized dealer rep gave..not good to say the least.

I have a nice doggie that can sound ferocious too, LOL!!

I have/want neither, but anyone who breaks into my place is going to get a BIG surprise. My daddy taught me how to use a handgun, and I wouldn't hesitate.

And of course, there's my .45 Caliber Glock that makes a *very* ferocious sound. :earseek: Carol has already become quite fond of shooting it. :scared:

But what would you do if you are not home?

We have ADT. We did have a false alarm. On our trip to Virginia I called home to be informed that my sister was called to go to my house because it may be on fire. Mind you that we did not have the fire detection system and my sister lives in the next county over. They did not call the fire department, so even if we did have the detection system my house would have burned to the ground by the time she got there. Other false alarms were caused by the cats. They didn't tell us that the anti-pet detection system would go off if they jumped on a chair or other item. Typically they were in the basement and this wasn't an issue, but on occassion they were upstairs while we slept and it went off. The anti-pet detection is not worth it in my opinion.

We've had Brinks for 12 years. When we moved, they transferred our contract- very simple. No false alarms other than a couple times, DSs came home with balloons that would float around the house and set off the alarm. We've been happy customers.

We have Slomin's. We've never had any false alarms.

We have ADT.... One false alarm... sort of.... Our Fire alarm is right outside a bathroom.... one night around 3 am, Charlie was really stufffy so I took him for a steam.... I left the door open and the steam set off the alarm!

All our friends were called and the fire truck was in route before I could call them and cancel it.

Also... I have heard some systems can effect your DSL hook up....
